Winslet follows up her Oscar-winning role in The Reader with Mildred Pierce, a five-part miniseries for HBO. "Knowing that I had to be present for that amount of screen time, that in and of itself was a challenge," the actress says of her hefty role as the title character. The challenge pays off when Winslet wins an Emmy and Golden Globe for her performance.

While vacationing at Richard Branson's Caribbean home in August, Winslet meets the billionaire's nephew, "Ned Rocknroll," whom she is linked with almost immediately. "Ned was heartbroken and went to Necker to take his mind off things," a source tells a British newspaper. "But when Kate came out they really hit it off." In October, the couple is photographed holding hands at the opening of Branson's commercial spaceport in New Mexico.

After a yearlong romance, Winslet and Rocknroll tie the knot in an ultra-private ceremony in New York attended by close friends and family, with Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly giving away the bride. "The couple had been engaged since the summer," her rep confirms.
