Milo Ventimiglia: Snapshot

Name
Milo Ventimiglia
Date of Birth
July 08, 1977
Birth Place
Anaheim, Calif.
After his run as Rory Gilmore's tortured, bad-boy boyfriend on Gilmore Girls, Milo Ventimiglia was stuck in an everlasting adolescence onscreen. NBC's sci-fi series Heroes – and a shirtless, tattooed role in Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry" video – took Ventimiglia out of WB teen idoldom.

On the big screen, he portrayed Sylvester Stallone's son in Rocky Balboa, and he has also jumped behind the camera with his production company Divide Pictures. As for his personal life, the brooding hunk has a penchant for his leading ladies: he's dated Gilmore Girls costar Alexis Bledel and Heroes costar Hayden Panettiere.

Milo Ventimiglia: Five Fun Facts

  1. Milo Ventimiglia has a birth defect: his self-described "crooked" mouth, which he explains as dead nerves causing his lower lip to lie limp. "It's so cute," Heroes costar Hayden Panettiere tells USA Today. "It's a flaw, and I hate perfection more than anything in the world."
  2. When Milo Ventimiglia was struggling to make it as an actor, he had a backup plan: "I thought about ditching it to be a mechanic," he told PEOPLE in 2008.
  3. In 2000, Milo Ventimiglia traveled solo through Europe, where he spent his 23rd birthday in the small town of Ventimiglia, Italy, where his surname originated.
  4. Milo Ventimiglia lived with Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley when the two costarred on The Bedford Diaries.
  5. Of his Heroes character's occupation as a male hospice worker, Milo Ventimiglia said, "I showed up for the cast photo shoot with scrubs on and Greg Grunberg's in his cop outfit, standing tall, hand on his gun, and I'm like, 'Oh man, I'm a murse [''male nurse'']. Not a doctor, a nurse.'"

Milo's Many Failed Series

After a series of failed TV shows (CBS' Brooklyn South and the Touched By An Angel spin-off Promised Land), Ventimiglia headlines the highly touted Fox series Opposite Sex. In this teen angst dramedy, he plays one of three boys entering an all-female institution. "I'm thinking about the future," the actor, 23, tells Tennessee's News-Sentinel. "If this show is a hit, then that's great. If it isn't, it has been a learning experience." The show turns out to be a learning experience.

Rory Gilmore's Jess

Ventimiglia plays the intelligent rebel Jess Mariano on the WB's Gilmore Girls with Alexis Bledel (left). After two seasons, he is set to carry his character into a highly anticipated spin-off. But it doesn't come together. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who compares the actor to Johnny Depp and Jake Gyllenhaal says, "The door is always open for his return."

Taking it Offscreen

Ventimiglia and costar Alexis Bledel (right) keep their off-screen relationship low profile. In 2006, Bledel admits to PEOPLE that they have discussed marriage: "I think everybody who has been dating for more than a couple of years probably talks about it at some point." In July 2006, after three and a half years together, Bledel and Ventimiglia announce their breakup. "There's an emotion that goes with that," he tells Men's Fitness in 2007. "I didn't really keep myself together as I should have."
