Ann Romney's Favorite Show Is Modern Family
by Michael Cohen and Stephen M. SilvermanAs the mother of five sons, Ann Romney knows a thing or two about the modern family – and motherhood.
"It's the moms of this nation – single, married, widowed – who really hold this country together," Romney said Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., where her husband Mitt Romney is the party's presidential nominee.
So, what is this mom's favorite TV show? The top-rated, Emmy-winning ABC sitcom Modern Family, she said in an interview with The Insider.
Show creator Steve Levitan is flattered by Romney's comments and posted a special invitation to her on his Twitter account.
"Thrilled Ann Romney says ModFam is her favorite show," Levitan posted. "We'll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam's wedding. As soon as it's legal."
Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) are a gay couple on the show, and they are raising a young daughter, Lily.
Throughout his campaign, Mitt Romney has stated his opposition to same-sex marriage, and in a June speech at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., affirmed his belief that "Marriage is between one man and one woman," The Washington Post reported.
Coincidentally, Mrs. Romney's favorite show is already a hit at the White House. "For the girls and me, Modern Family, that's our favorite show," President Barack Obama told PEOPLE last December.
The President also came out in support of gay marriage in May, reported The New York Times.
The Republican Convention continues in Tampa this week. The week of Sept. 3, the Democratic National Convention will be held in Charlotte, N.C.
