Pro surfer and shark-attack survivor Bethany Hamilton and new husband Adam Dirks are beaming on their wedding day, and PEOPLE has the first photo from the nuptials.
The couple tied the knot on Aug. 18 in front of 300 friends and family members at a secluded 130-acre estate on Kauai's north shore, near the town where Hamilton grew up.
"It was the most amazing day of my life," says Hamilton, who wore a Lazaro-designed gown for her laidback ceremony (most guests went barefoot), later changing into a handmade reception dress created by local boutique A. Ell Design.
Now 23, Hamilton lost her left arm to a 15-ft. tiger shark's bite in 2003. The story of her return to competition inspired the 2011 movie Soul Surfer.
She and Dirks, 25, met on a blind date last year. He works on Kauai with the Christian-based Young Life organization as a youth ministry volunteer.
