At least seven people were injured and a TSA officer was killed when a gunman opened fire at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday morning.
LAX police chief Patrick Gannon said that at 9:20 a.m "an individual came into terminal 3, pulled an assault rifle out of a bag" and began shooting.
He added that officers "didn't hesitate" to go in after the gunman (whom the FBI identified as L.A. resident Paul Anthony Ciancia, 23), and one of the officers was injured before the shooter was taken into custody.
The scene inside the terminal was chaotic as passengers scrambled to escape the gunfire. Acting Los Angeles Fire Chief Jim Featherstone says seven patients were treated for injuries, while six were transported to hospital.
A TSA officer was killed and at least one other TSA employee was wounded after the shooter (who was originally from New Jersey) opened fire at a security checkpoint.
"I heard a popping sound and everybody was diving for cover," passenger Robert Perez told KCAL/CBS. "The TSA said there was a shooting in the terminal and evacuate the building. Everybody started to panic."
Bachelor host Chris Harrison was among the passengers live-Tweeting from LAX. "TSA just shut the doors in lockdown. Shooting over at Terminal 3," he wrote.
Meanwhile Tory Belleci, host of Blow It Up, who was also at the airport, Tweeted photos of the chaos along with the comment, "Holy S––!!! How the hell did guns get [past] security?"
