The couple is happy. They're content. They're concerned about their daughter's high-school social schedules. They, however, are not worried about the status of their marriage – despite some recent pesky tabloid reports claiming they're headed for a divorce.
"[Rumors] seem to be running like crazy right now for some reason. It's perplexing," Hill, 46, told PEOPLE when asked about the reports. "I don't know why 'happy' can't be a story."
Hill insists they are "absolutely not" splitting.
Their body language seems believable, too. During the interview at the Venetian, the couple held hands and joked about their "impending doom." Clearly, this is old hat for them.
"We've been married 17 years, and since the first week we were married those things were out," McGraw, 46, said. "We don't even think about it. The only time we ever think about it is [when we] worry about the kids. But they've been around it, too, so they laugh it off."
Their three daughters' hectic social calendars seem to be the pair's biggest concern these days, especially with their oldest daughter, Gracie, 16, being a junior in high school. "I don't recall in high school ever being so busy," Hill said, talking about a phone call she'd just had with her kids, who are back in Nashville.
Kids grow up so fast, but one thing the couple doesn't want to think about right now is the day when their children eventually move out of the house. But their daughter might not feel the same way – as McGraw joked, "It's not hard for her to imagine!"
