Members of Paul Walker's stunned, grieving family as well as friends gathered Monday night to mourn at the site of the car crash that killed the actor over the weekend.

Police helped clear a space for Walker's loved ones amid other mourners and onlookers, Antonio Holmes, a body-shop worker who knew Walker through his Always Evolving racing team, tells PEOPLE. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Walker's Fast and Furious studio Universal obtained the necessary police permit for the gathering.

It was not immediately clear which family members attended. Walker is survived by his mother and father, two brothers, a sister and his 15-year-old daughter Meadow.

Walker's Fast and the Furious costar Vin Diesel also appeared at the Santa Clarita, Calif., site Monday night, where he thanked fans – who have been congregating there since Saturday's accident – for "showing that angel up in heaven how much you appreciated him."

Holmes, who was also an acquaintance of the other victim, Roger Rodas, said a public fan tribute is being planned for Dec. 15. "We'll be over at Neptune's [Net] in Malibu to do a tribute ride," he said. "There's an infamous scene in the first Fast and the Furious movie that was shot there."

Fans seeking to make donations are being asked to contribute to Walker's charity, Reach Out WorldWide, which helps organize resources for disaster relief.

"Paul founded the organization with the genuine desire to help others, and it's important to his family to keep his memory alive through ROWW," the Walker family said in a Facebook post.
