Natalie Wood at Cannes Film Festival 50 Years Ago: Photo Flashback
Originally posted 05/16/2012 07:00AM
These days, Hollywood's most familiar faces – from Leonardo DiCaprio to Kirsten Dunst to Angelina Jolie – bring their star power to the French Riviera for the Cannes Film Festival.
But before them, glitz and glamour was defined by big-screen veterans such as Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood (pictured here in black-and-white nearly 20 years before she mysteriously drowned).
In honor of the 65th annual Cannes Film Festival, which begins Wednesday with a screening of Wes Anderson's star-studded Moonrise Kingdom (its ensemble cast includes Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton), Life.com is paying homage to old Hollywood with photographs taken at the festival 50 years ago in 1962, such as this snapshot of Wood.

Mariah & Nick Bid $21,000 on Shoes at Charity Event!
Originally posted 05/16/2012 06:00AM
Days after celebrating their twins' birthdays – in Paris, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon arrived hand-in-hand at the Opera Gallery in N.Y.C. for an arty fundraiser.
The pair was spotted laughing and enjoying themselves, sipping soft drinks and checking out tunes by DJ Mos at the event, which benefitted the Urban Arts Partnership. The happy couple – who recently renewed their vows – was apparently in a very charitable mood: Cannon placed the night's highest bid, nabbing a $21,000 Project Canvas shoe, that was paired with a diver watch, designed by Audemars Piguet.
Carey was among the celebrities who designed shoes for the event. Her creation, which was snatched up by BET chairman Debra Lee for $2,000, earned the highest price for a single pair of shoes during the evening.
Other celebrities contributing shoe designs at the event: Ellen DeGeneres and Swizz Beatz.

With a total of 56 points out of 60 for the night after their two performances, Jenkins was left with a mild back injury and in last place on the leaderboard. Originally posted 05/15/2012 06:45PM
These days, Sherée Whitfield says she's spending time with her family. She's working on a few projects, too, including a fitness challenge, and she's planning her next move.
It's been a month, after all, since she announced her decision to leave The Real Housewives of Atlanta, a move she calls "an amicable split."
"I was ready to move, and I don't need to explain myself to anybody," she tells Essence magazine, shooting down rumors she was fired from the Bravo reality show. "I am super happy, and I'm moving in a different direction."
She adds: "I'm not about just being on a show bickering and fighting with women."

Montana Jogger Said 'Hi' to Suspects Before Being Attacked: Court Docs
Originally posted 05/15/2012 06:30PM
Two men pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the kidnapping and murder of Sherry Arnold after prosecutors filed court documents with new alleged details of her brutal attack.
Arnold disappeared at dusk along a rural road near her hometown of Sidney, Mont., where she was a star high school math teacher and mom to two kids and three stepchildren.
Before the arraignment, prosecutors added murder charges that make Michael Keith Spell, 22, and Lester Van Waters Jr., 48, both of Parachute, Colo., eligible for the death penalty.
According to the new documents, a jailhouse informant named Michael Pruit says Spell told him that Waters instigated the attack because the men were "high on drugs and Waters wanted to have sex."
Pruit says Spell told him that Arnold jogged past him and said, "Hi."

William Levy Surprised by Success on Dancing with the Stars
Originally posted 05/15/2012 02:00PM
He's so close to the Dancing with the Stars finale, and looking back on the season, William Levy had no idea he'd come so far in the competition.
"I'm surprised I can dance so well," he told PEOPLE backstage after he and partner Cheryl Burke scored a 59 out of 60 for two combined performances on Monday night.
But Levy's unassuming ways aren't applied strictly to the ballroom.
"Being born in Cuba and being raised in that kind of country and that kind of life, you never expect anything from life," he says. "You just go out there and give your best shot, and whatever happens, happens. I never thought about any of this."

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Take Their Kids to See Billy Elliot the Musical in London
Originally posted 05/15/2012 04:45PM
Nothing like enjoying a little theater in the West End while in London!
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie attended a recent matinee of Billy Elliot the Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre, a source tells us, for themselves and several of their children. (The source could not confirm which of the Jolie-Pitt kids attended the show, though seven tickets were booked in total.)
The family, who recently visited the U.K.'s Legoland together, sat in the dress circle – not separated from the rest of the audience for the 2:30 p.m. performance. After the show, Brad and Angelina went backstage to meet Adam Vespermann, a Seattle-native, who played Billy. When it was time to go, they left via the stage door and also signed autographs for some fans who were assembled.

Mitchell Guist Flashback: The Swamp People Star Makes Gumbo
Originally posted 05/15/2012 04:30PM
Swamp People fans can pay homage to the late Mitchell Guist in their own kitchens. (If they like the taste of venison and rabbit meat, that is.)
In memory of Guist, who died Monday at 48 in Louisiana from unreported causes after falling from his boat, PEOPLE.com is revisiting one of the most memorable moments from the History Channel show, in which the Guist brothers whip up gumbo for their dinner guests in an episode that aired last November.
"Hey Glenn, we got people coming over tonight, huh?" Mitchell, who was one of the alligator hunters the show followed, says to his brother. "What do you want to do with that rabbit sausage?"
