Rihanna Shows Up Fashionable – and Fashionably Late – for Album Party

Originally posted 11/25/2009 02:05PM

Life doesn't get much sweeter for Rihanna.

The singer got a black-and-grey cake from the Cake Boss at the New York City launch party for her new album, Rated R on Tuesday night. The cake was decorated to match her chosen "dark" theme, and included mannequins, barbed wire, and two televisions with images of art from her album. It was all crowned by a silver "R."

Of course, Rihanna's lucky she got a piece at all. She showed up three hours late to the party, though she made her usual splash in a short, gold-sequined dress by noir jewelry for The Blonds, dazzling the likes of Diddy, Jay-Z, Fabulous and Christian Siriano.

Roman Polanski Makes Bail – But Release Delayed

Originally posted 11/25/2009 12:45PM

A Swiss court granted Roman Polanski a $4.5 million bail on Wednesday – but the director won't walk free quite yet.

He'll have to remain behind bars while the Swiss government decides whether it wants to appeal the decision. It has 10 days to file the necessary papers.

Under the agreement with the court, the 76-year-old would wear an electronic monitoring device on his ankle and remain under house arrest at his family chalet in Gstaad while the U.S. and Switzerland work out his extradition for sentencing on his decades-old guilty plea for sex with a minor.

Brad and Angelina Are $7 Million Givers

Originally posted 11/25/2009 12:00PM

Big-name stars? Definitely.

But big givers? Of that, there is even less doubt.

Angelina Jolie, 34, and Brad Pitt, 45, gave a whopping $6.8 million to charities in 2008, the Hollywood Reporter says.

That was the amount given to various groups through the philanthropically minded couple's Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which donated about half of the $13 million it raised last year to nonprofits like Global Health, Human Rights Watch, the Armed Services YMCA, and Pitt's own Make It Right Foundation, dedicated to rebuilding New Orleans. Another $1 million went to various causes in Cambodia, home country for their son Maddox.

13-Year-Old Lost in NYC Subway for 11 Days

Originally posted 11/25/2009 11:40AM

They say New York's a gentler, safer city nowadays, but it's not any less confusing – especially to a 13-year-old runaway.

Francisco Hernandez Jr., who has the form of autism known as Asperger's syndrome, spent 11 days lost in the labyrinthine tunnels of the New York City subway system despite a search by his family, police and the Mexican consulate. He was finally found by a transit cop at the Coney Island station on Oct. 26, the New York Times reports.

Hernandez's odyssey began last month after he got in trouble at his middle school in Brooklyn. He called his mom, who said she wanted to have a serious talk with him. But instead of going home, the boy removed the battery from his cell phone and, with $10 and a subway pass in his pocket, headed for a nearby station. "I didn't want anyone to scream at me," he told the newspaper.
