Sarah Palin Resigns as Alaska Governor
Originally posted 07/03/2009 04:35PM
Sarah Palin announced Friday that she will resign as Alaska governor later this month. She made no mention about pursuing another office, but there has been speculation she is considering a run at U.S. Senate or the presidency.
"It hurts to make this choice but I'm doing what's best for Alaska," she said in speech from the backyard of her Wasilla home with husband Todd and children Piper, Bristol and Willow at her side. "You can effect change from the outside, and I can too."
She also said that her year-old son Trig, who has Down syndrome, needs her at home more.
Palin, 45, came out of nowhere last summer when the little-known governor was chosen to run with Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

Michael Jackson's Doctor to Skip Memorial
Originally posted 07/03/2009 12:35PM
Michael Jackson's private physician is in seclusion, not speaking even with family and friends, and won't attend the singer's memorial next week, the doctor's rep tells PEOPLE.
"He will be mourning in private because he feels his presence would remind people of Michael Jackson's death, and the doctor would prefer that people remember his friend as he was in life," says Miranda Sevcik, a spokeswoman for Dr. Conrad Murray.
Police have questioned Murray about his treatment of Jackson. The doctor, hired by the promoter of Jackson's planned London concert series this summer, was with the entertainer when he was stricken June 25 at his Los Angeles home.

INSIDE STORY: Will Jackson's Kids Inherit a Fortune or a Pile of Debt?
Originally posted 07/03/2009 11:25AM
He gave two of his three children names befitting royalty, but the question remains whether the family of Michael Jackson – Prince Michael I, 12, daughter Paris, 11, and Prince Michael II (Blanket), 7 – stand to inherit a fortune, or a mountain of unpaid bills from a decade of the pop star living beyond his means.
According to the terms of Jackson's 2002 will, his three kids and mom, Katherine Jackson, 79, are the only named beneficiaries of the trust he established and to which he left all of his assets. So what's ahead for the kids? As a source familiar with Jackson's finances puts it, "If someone hasn't worked in ten years and continues to spend $100 million a year, they are
going to have some financial problems."

Debbie Rowe, the mother of Prince, 12, and Paris, 11, spoke to her former attorney Iris Finsilver, who says, "She is going to be pursuing custody of the children."
"Frankly, she won't have to fight for them," Finsilver tells PEOPLE. "She is the children's biological mother. She loves her children."
