Madonna: Don't Blame Britney!

Originally posted 05/14/2008 01:20PM

Britney Spears’ oh-so-public woes can be blamed on her growing up in the limelight, says Madonna.

"I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that she was never allowed to have a childhood," Madonna told the BBC in an interview that aired Tuesday. “She didn't get to grow up and make mistakes privately and try things out and just be a kid and be innocent. She's been watched, judged and been under a microscope since she's been a teenager. It's hard to evolve that way."

Thankfully for Madonna, her own kids seem uninterested in mom's fame. "They come to the rehearsals. But they're sort of over it. They like to skateboard around."

Britney Spears Involved in Minor Car Accident

Originally posted 05/13/2008 06:00PM

Britney Spears was involved in a minor car accident Tuesday afternoon, when she rear-ended a red Ford Explorer in Beverly Hills.

"I think she was just distracted," said a witness. "She just tapped the other car in front of her."

Spears, 26, was at the wheel of her white Mercedes-Benz SL65 when she left her Studio City home for an afternoon drive. Shortly thereafter, she rear-ended the SUV.

Her bodyguard, who was sitting shotgun, got out and apparently gave a business card to the other driver, a female. Police were not involved.

Witnesses say the driver of the Explorer followed Spears back to her gated community to exchange information, apparently suggested by the bodyguard to avoid press attention.

Britney Spears Gets More Time with Children

Britney Spears will get more time with her sons during visitation, a court ruled Tuesday.

"We are so pleased with Britney's progress, and we are appreciative of the court's recognition of this progress," Spears's parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, said in statement after a hearing attended by the pop star and her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

It was not clear how much more time Spears was granted. Federline's attorney characterized the court order as "an expansion of time."

"It is a cautious step, but a step forward nonetheless," said lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan. "We are seeing signs of [Britney's] progress, and consistency over time is something welcome by Kevin ... The children are doing great."

Britney Relaxes at Alicia Keys Concert in L.A.

Originally posted 05/06/2008 10:50AM

Britney Spears blew off a little pre-courtroom steam Monday at the Alicia Keys concert.

Expected to attend a Tuesday progress review hearing in Los Angeles family court with her ex, Kevin Federline, Spears decided to have a little fun first.

The singer arrived at the Staples Center at 8:30 p.m. with mom Lynne, her assistant, and two bodyguards and parked in an underground VIP parking lot to avoid photographers. There was no sign of sister Jamie Lynn Spears, who just celebrated her baby shower with her big sis in Kentwood, La., last weekend.

Spears – who according to one onlooker looked pretty and seemed psyched to be there – missed the opening act, Ne-Yo, but got there in time to clap when Keys took the stage and to get up and bop to the tunes.

Britney Spears & Kevin Federline's Hearing Begins

Originally posted 05/06/2008 06:15AM

Britney Spears was seen looking distraught during a break in the Los Angeles family court hearing with Kevin Federline on Tuesday – though later she smiled as she walked back to the courtroom with her mother.

The singer appeared red-eyed and holding her lawyer's hand as she left the courtroom during the first of two breaks at the hearing in the couple's ongoing custody battle.

Spears and her lawyers, as well as Federline and his attorney, convened to adjacent rooms outside of the courtroom during the break. "This has happened before and it's completely unpredictable," court spokesman Allan Parachini said of the recess. He added that there has been no testimony in Tuesday's hearing so far.

At the end of the break, Spears smiled and seemed in good spirits as she made her way back to the courtroom with her mom, Lynne.

Britney Spears plans to attend a hearing Tuesday in a Los Angeles family court, a court spokesman confirms.

Asked if her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, would show, his lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan replied, "Kevin has been at every important hearing. I view Tuesday as an important hearing."

Spears, 26, returned to Los Angeles Sunday night after flying to Kentwood, La., to attend a baby shower for her expectant 17-year-old sister, Jamie Lynn, over the weekend.
