Lynne Spears's much-discussed new book is due out Sept. 16 – but the cover was unveiled Monday.

Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World is a memoir, describing Spears's "story of what it was like being a mom and raising two very famous people," a spokesman for publisher Thomas Nelson told PEOPLE in June. The tome will not be a parenting guide, as many had expected.

Spears's memoir was intended for publication earlier, but was put on hold after daughter Jamie Lynn got pregnant. (Jamie Lynn Spears gave birth to daughter Maddie Briann in June.) Said the publisher at the time: "Lynne never stopped working on it because she wants to express her love for her children and tell their stories through a mother's eyes."

Jamie Lynn Spears may be only 17, but longtime Spears family friend Alli Sims is confident in the new mom's parenting abilities.

"She'll be a wonderful mom" to newborn Maddie Briann, said Sims, 26, at the opening of Beverly Hills boutique Shizue on Thursday. "I'm really excited for her."

As for the family, Sims said, "You know, I haven't talked to 'em, but I know she'll have so much fun, and the baby will bring her so much happiness."

Sims had similar praise for aunt Britney Spears, saying, "She'll be so much fun!" and predicts Brit will buy baby Maddie "lots of pink, fun, girly stuff."

While Sims says she plans to visit Jamie Lynn "very soon," she's also busy working on a debut album: "I'm going to spend August in Nashville writing and recording."

Maddie Briann entered the world with a full head of hair, her daddy's toes and the world's most famous aunt waiting just outside the door.

New mom Jamie Lynn Spears, daddy Casey Aldridge and baby Maddie were catching up on rest Saturday following the birth Thursday at a hospital in McComb, Miss., near the Spears family home across the state line in Kentwood, La., a source tells PEOPLE.

Jamie Lynn was discharged from the hospital overnight Friday, with the new arrival getting an early education in her family's notoriety: their car had a police escort home.

"They're doing terrific," the source says. "The baby's got 10 fingers and 10 toes ... and a full head of hair. She's long, a tall baby, and she weighs 7 lbs, 11 oz."

When the baby was born at about 9:30 a.m., Jamie Lynn's sister, Britney Spears, and the rest of the Spears and Aldridge families were just outside the birthing room in the spacious maternity suite.

A day after her sister Jamie Lynn gave birth to a baby girl, a serious-looking Britney Spears returned to Los Angeles on Friday to a crush of rowdy paparazzi at the airport.

After the group – consisting of Spears, assistant Brett, father Jamie and bodyguards – made their way down a terminal escalator, Jamie Spears pushed photographers out of the way. Britney, wearing sunglasses, was bumped several times.

Hours earlier, the pop singer gave a tearful goodbye to family at the New Orleans airport after being on hand for the birth of her niece Maddie Briann. On the plane, Spears kept to herself in first class on the Delta flight, which also included celebrity passenger Amanda Bynes.

The music industry sang notes of congratulations to Jamie Lynn Spears Thursday night at a Songwriters Hall of Fame event in New York.

Spears's infant daughter, Maddie Briann, made her debut Thursday morning.

"Congratulations Jamie Lynn. Wow, I've not had a baby yet," English singer-songwriter Natasha Bedingfield said at the soirée. "She'll be able to give us all advice when it happens to us."

The performers and songwriters told the Zoey 101 star not to get too discouraged by the overwhelming media coverage of her early pregnancy and engagement to 19-year-old Casey Aldridge, a Mississippi pipe layer.

"My sister had a child at a young age, too, and I understand what that is like," soul singer John Legend said.

"You just hope that her family supports her and helps her with the baby and she'll be all right."

Jamie Lynn Spears's hometown of Kentwood, La., was buzzing with the news she gave birth, with friends and relatives expressing surprise, relief and confidence the 17-year-old will be a good mother.

"She's awfully young to be a momma," says distant cousin Margie Busby. "But that's what they make [grandmothers] for. They have to help. That's the way it is with our circle of friends."

Second cousin Janet Bridges acknowledges, "I didn't even know she had the baby," but gives a thumbs up to the baby girl's name. "Ooh, I like 'Maddie,'" says Bridges.

The birth was the talk of Kentwood. "I'm really happy for her and her family," says Jennifer Pike, who works at the corner store where the Spears family often shops. "There will probably be some rough times and some bumpy times, but I wish the best for her. I wish her all the luck in the world."

Britney Spears's father intends to sell her Studio City home in the latest liquidation of her assets, it was revealed in Los Angeles probate court Tuesday.

The hilltop house, located in a gated community, has been the scene of the recent drama in the singer's life, including the night in January she was taken from the property in an ambulance and forced into a psychiatric hospital.

It was not immediately clear where she intends to move. But a source close to Spears said, "Having more privacy and wide open spaces for her to raise her boys has been a goal for some time."
