Sean Lowe Says Arie Luyendyk Jr. Was the First Choice for the Latest Bachelor

Originally posted 02/20/2015 06:50PM

You'd think Sean Lowe would be tapped out after several rounds of Men Tell All and After the Rose specials during his time on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, but an interview on Friday proved he still has plenty of behind-the-scenes Bachelor secrets left.

Chris Soules Wasn't Always This Season's Bachelor

America – and at least three women – may have fallen in love with Chris Soules on this season of The Bachelor, but if you ask Lowe, the Iowa farmer almost didn't get the network's offer to be season 19's leading man.

Lowe told Dish Nation on Friday that it was not Soules, 33, whom producers originally had in mind to hand out the roses. Instead, they'd extended an offer to Arie Luyendyk Jr., whom Lowe befriended when they were both wooing Emily Maynard on The Bachelorette in 2012. (Lowe made it to the final three; Maynard passed over Luyendyk in favor of Jef Holm.)

"From what I understand, the show, the producers that make the show, they wanted Arie," said Lowe, 31, but new executives at the network "were getting nervous. Like, Arie hadn't been on TV in two years."

More shocking, though, is Lowe's claim that Luyendyk, 33, had gotten as far as filming introductory segments when he learned he'd been replaced.

Chris Soules is The Bachelor! After a bittersweet exit from Andi Dorfman's season of The Bachelorette, the farmer from Arlington, Iowa, is searching for love once again on ABC's hit franchise. Chris, 33, will be blogging for PEOPLE.com every week about the women, the dates and the difficult decisions he'll make on his journey to love. So check back every week, and follow Chris on Twitter.

Bali. Wow. Yes, the trip over there is a long one, but it's worth it. I even had just enough of a layover in Hong Kong to hit the town. I partied with the locals and ate some things I never thought I would eat. If you're ever in Hong Kong, check out Underbridge Spicy Crab. I'm still not sure what I ate, but it was delicious!

Arriving in Bali, I really couldn't believe I was there. I mean, we'd been in New Mexico, South Dakota and Iowa, but now we were in freaking Bali! Seriously, that place is incredible. There are the beautiful, ancient temples, the beaches are seemingly endless with these huge waves that people come from around the world to surf. But not me, I just went there to go on dates – my life is not normal.

Waking up after my group date in Des Moines, I didn't want to dwell on what happened with Britt, so I just decided to focus all my energy on Becca, and I'm so glad I did. I know I just had a one-on-one with Becca in Deadwood, but it catapulted our relationship forward, and I wanted to build on that momentum. It was so nice to spend a regular day with Becca. Just hanging with her in my loft felt so normal.

Now, here's a little tidbit about "my" loft. I don't live in Des Moines. I don't have a place in Des Moines. That's just where I was planning on staying while we were in town. But truthfully, I ended up sleeping at the hotel most of the time, so it was pretty funny calling it "my" loft. I officially want to thank the dude who let me use it. You've got a sweet place, but sorry for making out on your couch.

We're almost at the finish line, Bachelor Nation.

On Monday's episode, Chris Soules visited four hometowns. In true Bachelor fashion, however, the most interesting events happened while the girls were still all in one place, trash-talking each other.

Also, two girls were sent home in advance of the hometown dates – yes, they're probably the ones you'd assume.

Getting ready for the rose ceremony in Deadwood was tough because I was pretty sure I knew who I was going to send home, but I did want to spend more time with the girls to confirm my feelings. I was relieved when Megan boldly asked me how I felt for her, and she was right – our relationship was lacking progression.
