DWTS' James Maslow Talks Taking Fan to Disneyland: It a 'Blessing'

Originally posted 04/15/2014 10:20AM

Monday's Disney-themed episode of Dancing with the Stars was quite magical – but the fairy tales didn't only take place for the dance partners.

One lucky James Maslow fan had her wish granted: to meet the handsome DWTS contestant.

Hannah Wackernagle, a 18-year-old Ohio high school senior with Down syndrome, invited her famous crush to her school prom – but because of scheduling conflicts, she received the ultimate surprise treat instead.

"It was the perfect week, because I knew she was [not only] a big Big Time Rush fan, but also a big Disney fan," Maslow, with Wackernagle at his side, told reporters backstage after scoring the first perfect 40 out of 40 for the season (more on that in a bit).

"So Peta [Murgatroyd] and I got together and got her tickets and we went on a bunch of rides and we got Mickey Mouse ears."

Drew Carey Rates His 'Talent and Confidence' a 6 on DWTS

Originally posted 04/14/2014 05:00PM

[BRIGHTCOVE_PTV "3457058800001"] After a breakout performance by Drew Carey on Dancing with the Stars, the host of The Price Is Right now says Disney week is going to be "really extra tough."

He's dancing the quickstep Monday with partner Cheryl Burke, and despite an encouraging 33-point score in partner-switchup week, he worries about his footwork – and everything else.

"I'm a 6 on a confidence and talent level," he told PEOPLE jokingly during a break in rehearsals Thursday.

Candace Cameron Bure's DWTS Blog: I Hope to Rebound on Disney Night

Originally posted 04/14/2014 04:00PM

Candace Cameron Bure kicked off her career at age 10, starring in the popular series Full House. Since the series wrapped in '95, the actress got married, had three kids and wrote two books. She's been paired with two-time mirror ball winning champ for season 18 of Dancing with the Stars and she'll be sharing her experience with PEOPLE readers.

I'm so looking forward to tonight's show for many reasons.

Last week was the switch-up, where Tony [Dovolani] and I danced the quickstep. I have so many thoughts regarding the week in its entirety, but most importantly, I loved getting to know Tony. We had a blast together. The punk rock costume, hair and makeup was one of my favorites and overall I just felt great about our dance.

I will say that I was very disappointed in our scores. I felt like the dance went really well and I hit everything Tony was teaching me. I do understand that one of the connection points in my frame wasn't tight enough, but it wasn't something we focused on, so I was a bit confused. Now standing at the bottom of the leader board, I really hope my fans have pushed me through to another week. I really don't want to go home tonight!

Drew Carey 'Felt All Along' That Monday's DWTS Routine Would Be His 'Breakout'

Originally posted 04/08/2014 02:00PM

There's no dancing around it – Drew Carey is an improved ballroom performer.

The comedian, 55, who danced a 33-points-out-of-40 routine with Witney Carson during partner change-ups week on Monday's Dancing with the Stars, had a hunch this would be the one where he'd show how he's improved.

"I felt all along throughout rehearsal that this could be a breakout performance," Carey told PEOPLE backstage after his number, which earned him three points higher than the previous week's dance with regular partner Cheryl Burke. "I think a lot of time comics get a short shift on the show. They don't think comics can dance, and I want to disprove all that."

So, just what was it that made Carey so certain he'd wow the judges this week?

DWTS's Partner Change-Up Week: Who Was Most Improved?

Originally posted 04/07/2014 10:20PM

It was partner switch-up week on Monday's Dancing with the Stars, and the unique evening produced mixed feelings from judges.

While some usually lower-scoring contestants rose to the top, a couple of the higher-ranking performers received less than impressive marks during a week that featured Julianne Hough as a guest judge.

The night kicked off with a 28-points-out-of-40 quickstep by Candace Cameron Bure and Tony Dovolani that had Hough complaining of body contact that was "a little too gapped." Judge Bruno Tonioli said a punk rock-dressed Bure needed to "sort out this top line."

Tonight we reveal our switch-up partner! Thank you for all your Twitter votes in choosing my new pro. I think you're going to be surprised about who it is. I sure was!

The switch-up is only for one week and we'll go back to our original partners, which I was happy to hear, but I also have to say that I've enjoyed every moment with my new partner. His style and teaching technique is different than Mark's. I can't say one is better than the other, just different and I'm excited to take everything I'm learning from this week's pro and put it into practice with Mark.
