When former Dancing with the Stars contestant Cody Simpson graduated valedictorian of his Atlanta, Georgia, high school class, he made one thing clear in his acceptance speech: "Intelligence is the sexiest thing in the entire world."
And the 17-year-old means it.
His love of all things smart is part of the reason why he chose to date older – but now ex – girlfriend Gigi Hadid.
"I'm a big fan when a girl is smarter than you," the Australia-born pop star tells PEOPLE. "That’s why I've been with older girls, 'cause I like intelligence."

The dance continues.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Meryl Davis brought their ballroom sizzle to Tao Downtown in New York on Thursday night, celebrating their Dancing with the Stars victory with dance pros Val Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani and Jenna Johnson.
With rumors swirling of a romance, the bad boy of dance and the Winter Olympics gold medal ice dancer commanded close scrutiny as they huddled in a booth and stood together in a skybox.

There's no denying that Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Olympic gold medal ice dancer Meryl Davis have chemistry on the dance floor. All season long the Dancing With the Stars duo wowed the show's judges and viewers with one stellar performance after another.
As in-step as they are on the dance floor, it's their off-the-dance-floor connection that has folks wondering, "Are they or aren't they?" Or, in the case of DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who declared after the couple's emotional and soulful freestyle routine Monday night, "I think the two of you should get married."
That seems to be the general consensus among fans and colleagues, who experienced a gentler, kinder and more playful Chmerkovskiy this season. And humbler.

Long before one of the three finalists was eliminated during Tuesday night's finale of Dancing with the Stars, another celebrity found himself getting the boot from the ballroom.
Season 16 competitor Andy Dick, 48, arrived at the finale with a guest and seemed to be acting erratically, reeking of smoke and exhibiting eyebrow-raising behavior. He was running in and out of the ballroom every five minutes, saying, "I have to pee!" Within the hour, he had lunged at a production staffer's breast.
One observer tells PEOPLE that four security guards stepped in quickly and they "told him he had to go, and he said, 'Why? Because I'm drunk?' "

Peta Murgatroyd is a former Dancing with the Stars champion, winning the coveted mirror-ball trophy in season 14 – only her second season on the series – with Donald Driver. The Australia native will blog for PEOPLE about competing with Big Time Rush band member James Maslow during the show's 18th season.
Last week was rather stressful for both of us. In our Michael Jackson number, everything was sort of coming together, but then on the day we were doing our walkthrough with the band and our dress rehearsal, they took our stage away.
We had a catwalk and a round stage and they took that away because they realized they couldn't get it up in time. So all week long, we were practicing and had marked out the floor and width and depth and stuff and used choreography that would fit the catwalk.
