Tim Tebow got on one knee in Indianapolis Saturday night – to "Tebow" with Maria Menounos in the VIP section of ESPN's Super Bowl party. It was a special treat for the Extra hostess, who Tebowed solo on the Golden Globes red carpet in January.

Nearby, Tom Cruise's son Connor and his posse held court at a table, while Spike Lee, bedecked in Giants gear, relaxed with his son; Shaquille O'Neal cuddled with pint-sized girlfriend Nicole "Hoopz" Alexander; and Drake warmed up for his set by handing out shots to women near the stage.

Defeat is a bitter pill to swallow – especially at the Super Bowl.

Perhaps it was made a bit easier for Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady, whose wife Gisele Bündchen was on hand to comfort him in Indianapolis on Sunday night, after losing 21-17 to Eli Manning and the New York Giants in a suspenseful fourth quarter.

But playing the supportive footballer's wife means more than just being a shoulder to cry on. The supermodel was caught on camera defending her husband after being heckled by fans.

Call it a finger malfunction?

Madonna was supposed to be the center of attention during the Super Bowl halftime show Sunday, but the Queen of Pop was upstaged by her collaborator M.I.A., who flipped off the camera at one point during the performance, prompting swift apologies from the NFL and NBC.

"The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing and we apologize to our fans," said Brian McCarthy, spokesman for the NFL, according to the Associated Press.

This year's Super Bowl brought with it a host of new ads, including a revival of Ferris Bueller and several appearances by supermodel Adriana Lima. Our chief concern, obviously, were the ads featuring pets, and there were several noteworthy editions. From the sinister Great Dane featured in this year's Doritos spot (featured above) to the speedy French bulldog that took the Skechers baton from Kim Kardashian, here are our favorite Super Bowl ads starring animals.

Madonna at the halftime show, a 21-17 victory for the New York Giants over the New England Patriots, and, of course, those Super Bowl commercials – Sunday night had it all.

Here, PEOPLE's TV critic, Tom Gliatto, assesses the spectacular spots that appeared between some of the game's greatest moments on the field.

In a surprisingly funny and effective promo for America's Got Talent, that aired during Sunday night's Super Bowl on NBC, new judge Howard Stern literally blasted a lousy singer offstage with a firehose. That's how you maybe felt sitting through all the evening's ads (which reportedly sold at an average rate of $3.5 million for half minute): punished yet also somehow refreshed by the onslaught of jokes, concepts and images.

At the Audi Super Bowl cocktail party Saturday evening, Glee's Matthew Morrison and girlfriend Renee Puente celebrated with fellow Giants fan Aaron Paul and his new fiancée, Lauren Parsekian, before the spouses-to-be took in the view of Indianapolis's Lucas Oil Stadium from the balcony of the Conrad Hotel. Also enjoying the sight: Kellan Lutz, who gushed over the midwestern city's beauty.

Meanwhile, Neil Patrick Harris and partner David Burtka enjoyed a rare moment away from caring for their twins to talk football with partygoers, while Spike Lee couldn't hold back his excitement over bringing his son to his first Super Bowl to root for the hometown Giants. But by the time Patriots owner Robert Kraft popped in, he could claim to be in friendly territory, as Erin Andrews and Maria Menounos made it clear they were Pats gals. – Jessica Wedemeyer

Eli Manning and Tom Brady may know their way around the football field, but Sunday night, New England Patriots and New York Giants fans could take a break from taking sides to root for the queen of the (ever intricate) stage: Go Madonna!

The Super Bowl halftime show kicked off with a royal welcome as an army of gladiators escorted the veteran performer onto Indianapolis's Lucas Oil Stadium stage. With a diamond-studded gold crown, Madonna, 53, launched into her hit "Vogue" as the stage flashed covers of the iconic fashion magazine.

Next on the set list: her 2000 dance jam "Music." Joining her on the stage were the guys behind LMFAO – Stefan (Redfoo) and Skyler (SkyBlu) Gordy – who teamed with Madonna to sing samples from their hits, "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy and I Know It."
