The film stars Harlem native Yaya DaCosta, 32, as the singer, who died in February 2012. DaCosta got her start on cycle 3 of America's Next Top Model in 2004. She has since gone on to do films such as 2006's Take the Lead with Antonio Banderas, and 2013's The Butler.

And she'd learned to sing Whitney on a karaoke machine her late father bought her when she was 8.

Arsenio Hall Brought to Tears Talking About His Friend Whitney Houston

Originally posted 01/15/2014 05:30PM

Arsenio Hall found himself moved to tears while interviewing Tika Sumpter on his talk show on Wednesday.

Hall, who was a longtime friend of Whitney Houston's, asked the 33-year-old what it was like working with "The Voice" on her last film Sparkle, which came out after she died in 2012.

"Whitney was everything," said Sumpter, who played the Grammy winner's daughter. "You'd be sitting in a corner, and I'd be just kind of quiet, they'd be changing for the set-up and she's like, 'You okay, baby? Who do I need to talk to to make sure you're all right?'
