Having been freed on bail Friday as he awaits trial for the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius "will have to live with his conscience," her father said Saturday.
Speaking to the Beeld newspaper (and translated by the BBC), Barry Steenkamp – referring to Pistorius's claim that he fatally fired his gun four times at Reeva because he thought an intruder had broken into his house – said: "If it didn't happen the way he says it did, he must suffer and he will suffer."

Oscar Pistorius to Be Released on Bail
Originally posted 02/22/2013 09:25AM
Prosecutors in South Africa were defeated Friday in their effort to deny bail for "Blade Runner" Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee track star accused of the premeditated Feb. 14 murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
Pistorius will be released on U.S. $114,000 bail, CNN reports.
Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair announced his decision in a packed Pretoria courtroom Friday afternoon. Over the past four days during the bail hearing, both authorities and Pistorius's legal team agreed that he killed Steenkamp, 29, but the athlete says he killed her accidentally after he mistook her for an intruder.

Oscar Pistorius Case: Top Cop Faces His Own Attempted Murder Charges
Originally posted 02/21/2013 08:20AM
In a bizarre development in the Oscar Pistorius investigation, the top police detective on the case was replaced Thursday after it was revealed he also is facing charges of attempted murder – connected to an incident 18 months ago in which he fired shots at a minivan.
In October 2011, Hilton Botha and two other officers tried to stop a van they believed was carrying a murder suspect by shooting at it, the New York Times reports. The van was carrying seven people.
Botha was charged with attempted murder. The charges were later dropped, but were reinstated this week – which police called a complete coincidence.

Oscar Pistorius's House Had Testosterone & Needles, Say Police
Originally posted 02/20/2013 08:35AM
As a bail hearing continued Wednesday in the murder case of South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius, new details have emerged as prosecutors outline their charges that he is guilty of shooting his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp.
Police testified that they discovered testosterone and needles inside the "Blade Runner" Olympian's home, The New York Times reports.
But his defense lawyers said the Olympian took no banned performance-enhancing drugs, describing the substances found as herbal. The athletes, according to the International Paralympic Committee, tested drug-free as late as last September.
Pistorius, 26, has claimed the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.

Oscar Pistorius: Reeva 'Died in My Arms'
Originally posted 02/19/2013 07:20AM
Charges against Oscar Pistorius have been upgraded to premeditated murder, after the judge in Pretoria, South Africa, said during Tuesday's bail hearing that he could not rule out the possibility that the "Blade Runner" track star planned the shooting death of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, reports CNN.
Magistrate Desmond Nair said he would consider downgrading the charge at a later date. Wearing a blue shirt and gray suit, and sometimes clenching his jaw, Pistorius also openly wept in the packed courtroom as prosecutors provided details of their accusations.
Prosecutors said Pistorius, 26, opened fire on Steenkamp, 29, four times through a locked bathroom door of his home in a gated community last Thursday after attaching his prosthetic legs and walking more than 20 feet from a bedroom.
