Following Tuesday's much anticipated release of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, author Helen Fielding took some time to chat live with PEOPLE.com readers and reflect on the beloved fictional character she made into a household name.
"I love talking about Bridget and it is very touching that people still care about her after so much time," Fielding, 55, told readers, adding that she never gets tired of talking about her.
Bridget, played by Renée Zellweger in the two film adaptations of the book, is a widowed mom in the third and most recent installment of the series – and fans have expressed outrage that Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, has been killed off.

Charlie Hunnam just avoided the possibility of having to address his decision to drop out of Fifty Shades of Grey.
On Wednesday, the actor, 33, failed to make his first scheduled public appearance since the big casting shakeup was announced over the weekend.

Is this the new shade of Grey?
Following the news that Charlie Hunnam, 33, backed out of playing Christian Grey in the highly anticipated film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey, Universal Pictures and Focus Features apparently have their eyes set primarily on British TV star Jamie Dornan, 31, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The report says that fellow British actor Christian Cooke, 26, and Alexander Skarsgard, 37, of True Blood fame, are also in the running for the coveted erotic role.

The Twilight saga may have put Robert Pattinson on the map, but not all of Hollywood is looking for that type of attention.
Following the announcement that the Sons of Anarchy actor exited Fifty Shades of Grey on Saturday, a source tells PEOPLE it wasn't all because of his "immersive TV schedule," which Universal Pictures and Focus Features blamed for his departure.
"He dropped out of the project because he didn't want to be typecast," the source says. "He didn't want the Robert Pattinson-esque attention that would come along with taking on this role."

Charlie Hunnam doesn't seem too upset about exiting Fifty Shades of Grey.
The same day Universal Pictures and Focus Features released a joint statement that the Sons of Anarchy actor and the "filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey ... have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule," he served as the best man in a friend's wedding.
Hunnam, 33, "seemed in really good spirits and spent time with his closest friends and his girlfriend," a source tells PEOPLE. He gave a sentimental toast and longtime girlfriend Morgana McNelis caught the bouquet.

There's no shortage of risqué bondage in Fifty Shades of Grey but there seems to be one person producers had trouble tying down: their leading man.
Charlie Hunnam, who had been cast as Christian Grey in the high-profile movie adaptation of the steamy literary saga, has exited the project.
"The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey," Universal Pictures and Focus Features said Saturday in a joint statement.
