Originally posted 07/12/2012 05:00PM
Steven Tyler is going back to his day job.
After two seasons as a judge on American Idol, the Aerosmith frontman says he won't be returning to the reality show and will, instead, be focusing once again on his band.
"After some long ... hard ... thoughts … I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit," the rocker said in a statement Thursday. "I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band."
Tyler's announcement comes amid continued chatter that Jennifer Lopez will not be returning to the popular Fox show. "I am thinking that it's time for me to go," she recently said about tackling a third season.

Walk this way, Aerosmith fans! Recently rehabbed Steven Tyler is ready to rock again with his bandmates – and not without some effort on his part.
"I just auditioned and I got the gig," Tyler, 61, jokes in a new video announcing his band's upcoming European tour. "We're coming your way and rocking your world. Look out baby – because here we come again."
The rocker caused fans – and his bandmates – to worry about his health in Nov. 2009 after he displayed some erratic behavior which caused Aerosmith to cancel shows. Tyler ultimately entered rehab for painkiller addiction the next month.
The band's newly announced tour begins June 10 in Sweden – and wraps July 3 in Venice, Italy. No North American shows have been announced yet. – Brian Orloff

Aerosmith Members Say Steven Tyler 'Needs Help'
Originally posted 11/19/2009 05:30AM
As Steven Tyler's bandmates ponder the future now that he has decided to take a two-year break from Aerosmith, they are also expressing concerns about the singer's well-being.
"I think that he needs help and that attention needs to be put to his health," drummer Joey Kramer tells PEOPLE.
And Kramer says he isn't referring to the broken shoulder Tyler sustained when he fell off the stage during a concert in August.
Asked if he thinks there is something else going on with Tyler, he says, "I do."
Recent reports in the Boston Herald and online suggest Tyler, who battled drug addiction in the '70s and '80s and checked into a rehab center last year to detox from painkillers, may be partying again.
Though Kramer would not say whether he has seen Tyler use drugs recently, he says he is concerned because the singer has "isolated himself."
Says Kramer, "He's got some bad influences in his life right now and he's making poor choices."
Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford tells PEOPLE, "His behavior is spinning out of control."

"I was totally surprised. I had no idea he was going to show up," Perry tells PEOPLE in his first interview since the show. In fact, the pair hadn't spoken in weeks. "All I know is we walked off stage and were sitting taking our break [before] the encore and there was a bunch of commotion and I looked up and Steven was there."
