NEWS BRIEFS: Adam Sandler's Dog Died

DIED: Adam Sandler's beloved pooch Meatball, 4, passed away Jan. 26, reports PEOPLE in its latest issue. The bulldog, whose drinking and drooling problems were well chronicled on the actor's Web page, also appeared in Sandler's 2000 film "Little Nicky." Sandler, 37, held a memorial service at his Malibu home for more than 100 people and served a cake that featured Meatball's face. Guests received T-shirts with the dog's image. As for the actor's other bulldog, Matzoball is sad but fine, according to the magazine.

January 16, 2004THE DREAM TEAM Perhaps you've seen the Fab Five from NBC's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy in their TV ad for the NBA, one of the basketball league's "1,000 reasons why I love this game" spots. In the ad, style guru Carson Kressley says, "I love this game, even though we're the real Dream Team." And Kyan Douglas, the show's grooming god, says he loves it "because the tattoos really bring out the personality." But the ads were improvised, and PEOPLE.com has learned some of the Fab Five's more, well, sensitive comments, which won't be aired. The real reason Carson loves the game? "Because Charles Barkley is hot!" He also expressed affection for Dennis Rodman, and noted that, while watching basketball, "if you're lucky, you get to see a nipple every now and then." As for Kyan's true feelings: "I love this game because it has big balls!"
