Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to extraordinary adoptable pets every week. Today, meet three: Darla, Gemini and Libra, a unique trio that needs to be adopted together.

Darla, a 2-year-old miniature Pinscher/Dachshund mix, came to the Humane Society Silicon Valley of Milpitas, California, with a common problem: She was terrified. Darla was previously surrendered to a crowded city shelter after living in her owner's backyard where she rarely interacted with people.

Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, meet three: Manny, Troy and ShyAsia, 3-month-old pit bull mixes who were recently rescued from a neglectful home.

It's incredibly sad to think that the mother of these precious babies was, and still is, tied up on a chain outside her owner's house and has not been spayed. When she became pregnant several months ago, her owner didn't want anything to do with the puppies; they were tossed outside to die without food or water, says the Eleventh Hour Rescue of Rockaway, New Jersey.

Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Chuck, a young pit bull who has overcome difficult hurdles in his short life.

This past Christmas, the pooch was found tied to a fence at the Asphalt Green recreational campus in New York City. Unable to walk normally, he could only drag himself by his front legs.

He was brought to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals by two good Samaritans. Radiographs revealed severe joint disease in both of his hips due to old fractures, and, as a result, he had lost almost all the muscle mass in his hind legs.

It's Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month, and in honor of the wonderful rescue cats out there, we're introducing you to felines-in-waiting all throughout June. Today, we'd like you to meet Homer, a talkative 8-year-old tabby currently being cared for by the Home at Last Rescue of Berkeley, California.

These are the eyes of a curious cat. Though he may be a bit shy at first, when he's given the chance to relax, Homer is easygoing and affectionate.

When he wants attention, Homer is happy to let you know. "He will purr to no end with a little encouragement," reads his Adopt a Pet bio. "He loves to have his head, ears and belly rubbed and will quickly melt into a belly flop to have his soft underside pet."

It's Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month, and in honor of the wonderful rescue cats out there, we're introducing you to felines-in-waiting all throughout June. Today, we'd like you to meet Elaine, a 7-year-old who arrived at the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, two months ago.

Sadly, when Elaine's parents divorced recently, it changed everything for her. The domestic shorthair, described as a "snuggler," was given up to the shelter and is hoping to make a connection with a new owner soon.

This kitty definitely knows how to charm people. "Elaine is a love bug and sweetheart, rolled into one," says administrative coordinator Kristen Rygg. "She loves everyone, gets along with dogs and other cats, and has lived with children."

It's Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month, and in honor of the wonderful rescue cats out there, we're introducing you to felines-in-waiting all throughout June. Today, we'd like you to meet Everdeen, a 2-year-old cat living at the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter in Billings, Montana.

Everdeen is gorgeous – and she knows it! Therefore, she's happy to have you brush her to keep her looking pretty. The kitty isn't an over-the-top diva, though – she "prefers to take the Zen approach to life," says activities coordinator Melissa Anderson. "She will take a interest in anything you're doing but is perfectly happy hanging out and supervising the activities of the household."

It's Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month and in honor of the wonderful rescue cats out there, we're introducing you to pets-in-waiting all throughout June. Today, we'd like you to meet Mystery, a handsome boy living at the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter in Fryeburg, Maine.

Like his name implies, Mystery is an interesting cat. "The way he looks at you," says kennel technician Genie Blodgett, "he's not afraid but he'll shy away a bit. Trying to get to know him has been very difficult. He's very mysterious."

While some cats reveal their true colors almost instantly, it's definitely been slowgoing with this 4-year-old who's been at the shelter for almost two years. "When people come in they think he's beautiful, but he'll say, 'I'm not interested in you' and turn away. There are people he likes and some he doesn't like."

Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Juliette, a 3-year-old calico who is an office cat at the Upper Valley Humane Society in Enfield, New Hampshire.

Looking for those missing paperclips or rubber bands? Ask Juliette. It's highly likely that she's batted them under a desk somewhere. The cat has been at the shelter for nearly two years, and in that time she's explored every nook and cranny of the office she shares with office manager Michelle Laramie. Besides being a pro at swiping office supplies, Juliette loves to be involved in whatever tasks are at hand.

"She's usually sitting on whatever Michelle is working on, the payroll that she's trying to work on," says executive director Deborah Turcott. "She's quite adventurous. We had to put a screen up to keep her from escaping the room."
