Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Harriet, a 7-year-old pooch who has come a long way since arriving at the Animal Welfare Society in New Milford, Conn.

The 45-lb. pup may be the picture of perfection now, but this former stray was freezing cold, flea-infested and missing most of her fur on February 4 when animal control officer Audrey McKay captured her and brought her into the shelter.

The Daily Treat: Australian Rescue Penguins in Need of Hand-Knit Sweaters

Think you've seen every possible combination of adorable animals in sweaters? Prepare to be proven wrong.

Meet the penguins of Australia's Phillip Island Nature Park. This bunch of stylish birds happily models a wide variety of sweater designs, all handmade specifically for them. But their clothing serves more than a sartorial purpose: The penguins here are being treated for feather and skin damage caused by oil spills. The sweaters keep them warm and prevent them from pecking at the oil with their beaks, reports ABC Melbourne.

The Penguin Foundation, also based on Phillip Island, is responsible for distributing these sweaters, which it gives to other wildlife rescue centers, as well. For those looking to contribute to the cause, a knitting pattern is available on their website, along with directions on where to send the finished products.

The Winter Olympics may be over and the crowds have packed up and left Sochi, but the stray dogs that captured the world's attention are still there. And so is Oleg Deripaska, the Russian billionaire who developed much of the area and is now determined to do what he can to shelter and find homes for the area's estimated 4,000 dogs.

"It is a problem, a big problem," says Deripaska in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, while flipping through countless photos of strays on his cellphone. "Here, look," he tells his visitor a moment later, pointing to a picture of ten puppies in a cardboard box. "Somebody dropped these off at our shelter a few days ago."

Nobody nose heartbreak quite like Snuffles.

The 4-month-old Belgian shepherd has been overlooked by potential adopters because of a unique birth defect: a snout that looks like two noses.

"It is such a shame to think that this sweet-natured lad may not find the loving home he deserves," Sandra Lawton, manager of the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, tells the Daily Mail. "We take in hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes but I have never seen anything quite like Snuffles."
