If you've checked Twitter recently, you've probably seen a lot of commotion about the American Music Awards. But among the chatter about Katy Perry's geisha costume and Justin Timberlake's many wins, there was an even more important event being live-Tweeted: the saga of #vendingmachinecat.
Late Sunday night, Twitter user June Murph posted a photo of a cat stuck in a vending machine at New Orleans's Tulane University.

In honor of Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month, we'll be introducing you to an adult furball looking for a place to live out its golden years throughout November. Today, we'd like you to meet Jessie, a kitty who has remained sweet despite having his whole world turned upside-down.
When his owners moved in September, they couldn't take Jessie along. The 8 lb. senior cat was surrendered to the SPCA of Texas in Dallas, but the cheerful cat hasn't allowed shelter life to get him down.

Nothing makes Grumpy Cat smile. We know this because we tried. Oh, we tried.
We offered up a tiara when she visited the PEOPLE studio with her owner Tabatha Bundesen back in March. Then we showed her a picture of ultimate cat lady-killer Ian Somerhalder. We even handed over our copy of Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience.
Nothing made her smile. In fact, Oscar the Grouch probably had better luck than we did. But not content with defeat, we decided to try yet again at October's The Friskies awards.
And so it goes: We looked into her big, disinterested blue eyes and asked her if she was excited to find out which hunky guy (cat lover or otherwise) will be named PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive this year.

There was much to love about 2012's The Hunger Games, from Jennifer Lawrence's badass portrayal of heroine Katniss Everdeen to Elizabeth Banks's over-the-top ensembles as Effie Trinket. But for a certain group of fans, the book's big-screen adaptation got one very important aspect of the story wrong: Prim's cat.
The beloved feline of Katniss's younger sister is described as having a yellow coat, an aspect that inspires Prim to name him Buttercup. In last year's blockbuster, however, Buttercup was portrayed by a black-and-white cat – until author Suzanne Collins had a word with Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence.
"That was a request from Nina [Jacobson] the producer and Suzanne the author," he told io9.com of the change. "They thought the cat from the first movie was not the way he was described in the book. And that had annoyed a bunch of fans, and things like that."

We think Katy Perry would app-purr-rove!
Singer/bassist Kate Davis has put her own spin on Perry's hit song "Roar" by taking the pop song one step furrier, er, further: She filmed a folk version of the ditty at a New York City animal shelter.
Shot Nov. 2 at the Humane Society of New York in midtown Manhattan, Davis and her band – which includes guitarist Gabe Schnider and drummer Conor Szymanski – performed the song in a room full of adorable and very adoptable felines, many of whom rock out as the sweet songstress belts out the tune. And by rock out, we mean go all acrobatic on a cat tree and knead lovingly on a blanket.

In honor of Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month, we'll be introducing you to an adult furball looking for a place to live out its golden years throughout November. Today, we'd like you to meet Precious, a sweet kitty who enjoys watching the world from a windowsill.
If you look closely, you'll see what's so special about this pretty girl. She has striking markings and eyes that are two different colors. Precious is laid back and loves attention from people and other cats. She doesn't require a lot – a belly rub and a comfy windowsill where she can watch birds are just about all she wants in life.

Since achieving Internet fame in September 2012, Grumpy Cat (née Tardar Sauce) has managed to find herself all sorts of places. She's toured the U.S., released a book, and even managed to endorse a coffee drink. (We'd hate to see her without her coffee.)

On the other 364 days of the year, we embrace the fact that it's our cats' world, and we just live in it (re: supply the snacks and/or companionship when desired).

Talk about having nine lives!
After her home in Stratford, east London, caught fire, Gert, a 4-year-old pet cat, was found lying motionless by firefighters who responded to the blaze on Sept. 28. Her owner, Michael Morrison, begged responders to save his cat's life, and lucky for him, some quick thinking managed to do just that.
"It was horrible. I collapsed on the floor crying," Morrison said. "They were all huddled around her and even took my oxygen mask off for her."
