Originally posted 05/31/2012 07:45AM
How did Jenna Elfman spend her holiday weekend? Puppy-proofing!
The actress adopted an 8-week-old dog from the L.A. Animal Rescue on May 26, and the adorable puppy spent the Memorial Day weekend "trashing the place," according to the actress's WhoSay page.
Elfman and her two young sons, Story and Easton, spotted the spaniel mix at Tailwaggers pet store in Hollywood, where L.A. Animal Rescue was having one of its regular adoption events. Though 4-year-old Story had his heart set on a Chihuahua, with help from an adoption specialist, the trio decided on a different dog – the "very mellow" mutt, according to Su Roos, director of the rescue.

Trainer Justin Silver's Toughest Clients? Humans, Not Dogs
Originally posted 05/30/2012 05:35PM
How do you go from being a stand-up comedian with a personal training day job to becoming the dog guru of New York City?
For Justin Silver, it was easy.
"The only thing on at 4 o'clock in the morning are those really depressing animal commercials," Silver tells PEOPLE. "Next thing I know, there are two adopted dogs and two cats living in my house and I was working as a foster. That was the first thing that made me feel whole and complete."
Fostering turned into dog training, and "before I knew it, I had to get business cards made." Now, Silver is the star of a new CBS reality series, Dogs in the City, where he tackles the unique yet universal challenges facing New York City dogs – and their bizarre, challenging owners.

Bindi Irwin: I Never Want My Dad's Message of Conservation to Die
Originally posted 05/30/2012 03:00PM
For Bindi Irwin and her brother Robert, the best way to get moving in the morning is with footage of their dad, the always-enthusiastic Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin.
"We'll get up and put on a Daddy DVD, just to remember all of our wonderful adventures with him," says 13-year-old Bindi, who was 8 when her wildlife conservationist father was killed by a stingray in 2006. "We'll often put in a documentary and watch him and have a smile on our face – it's a great way to start the day."
Smiles abound at the Australia Zoo, where Bindi and 8-year-old Robert live, along with 1,200 animals. It's the same place where her father discovered his passion for animals as a child. This month, they're inviting audiences to meet some of their favorite creatures in the online series Growing Up Wild, debuting on the new Pet Collective YouTube channel.

But despite being repeat visitors to Indiana's capital, the pups still managed to live it up.

Originally posted 05/25/2012 04:30PM
It isn't everyday that Rachael Ray gets to meet the country's most beloved dog – but on a recent day at the White House, the talk show host got to meet Bo Obama for the first time.
For a special episode of the Rachael Ray Show, Ray joined Michelle Obama for a barbecue on the South Lawn. They cooked up three dishes using ingredients from the First Lady's vegetable garden.
As if that weren't enough of a treat, Ray (who makes no secret of her bias towards dogs) sat down with Bo for an "interview," during which they looked through Mrs. Obama's new book, American Grown.

The Eastwood Family's Menagerie: Chickens, Rats – But No Cats!
Originally posted 05/25/2012 10:15AM
Growing up, Francesca Eastwood's friends felt uneasy going over to her house – not because of her famous father, Clint, but because of the rat room.
"We call it the rat room because we have, like, really, 14 rats," she tells PEOPLE. "But they're really sweet animals. They're very clean and loving."
Francesca, 18, who stars with step-mom Dina and 15-year-old sister Morgan in the new E! reality series Mrs. Eastwood and Company, has joined her animal-loving family in caring for chinchillas, chickens, pigs and tortoises over the years, but don't expect to see any dogs or cats.

Charlize Theron: My Dogs Help with My Baby
Originally posted 05/24/2012 01:15PM
It was love at first sight, says Charlize Theron, for her four-legged best friends and her infant son Jackson, whom she adopted in March.
"It was the most beautiful thing I've ever witnessed," the Oscar winner, 36, tells Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "From the moment this baby came into our home, those two dogs have never been more in love."
Theron happily considers her brood to be her family – no matter what others may think. She calls her dogs "her boys." They are, she says, "Berkley, a terrier mutt, and he's actually the pacifier thief ... He'll just lay there with the [baby's] pacifier in his mouth," and a pit bull named Blue, who help keeps the actress running on schedule.
"People keep saying, 'Oh you're a single mom,' and I'm like, 'Actually, I'm not. I got two boys helping me out.' It's incredible."
