It's the most wonderful time of the year – and we're obviously referring to the pending reveal of PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive, not the Christmas carols your local radio station is already blasting.
Until this year's head honcho of hunk-dom is revealed, here's what you missed this weekend:

Sure, Kanye West rented out a stadium to propose to Kim Kardashian. Prince William asked Kate to be his wife while they were on a 10-day African safari. And then there's that guy from Utah who organized a flash mob inside a Home Depot to pop the question to his boyfriend.
But there are exactly 16 reasons why the following marriage proposal is even better than any of the above romantic gestures.
A man from London named Ed wanted to propose to his longtime love, Alex, in New York City's Central Park with the help of a few pugs. He contacted the New York City Pug Meetup Group, who proved that yes, ladies and gents, dreams really do come true.

We think you should sit down for this one.
Corgis may soon make their way onto the endangered breed list, according to the Britain Kennel Club's breeders's association. There were only 241 Pembroke Welsh Corgis registered in Britain this year, AFP reports. That number needs to be at 300 to stay off the vulnerable breeds list.

Quassia vom Wandsbarg the Irish setter gave birth to 17 puppies earlier this month in Lutzhorn, Germany; of the 17 newborns, 15 survived. It was the 4-year-old dog's very first litter, too.

When the government shut down on Tuesday, so did our hearts. (Insert violin.)
You see, amid all of the uncertainty and talk of furloughing that, to our surprise, has nothing to do with furry animals, we no longer can watch the Smithsonian's National Zoo panda cam. Or the octopus cam. Or the cheetah cam. We'd take the naked mole rat cam at this point, but that's gone dark, too.
With no end in sight, here are seven images (including the one on the left) of pandas being pandas because pandas. Panda cam, our love, you've gotten us through so many bad hair days, sleepless nights and breakups, but for now, we just have to focus on filling this void. We know this doesn't change anything, but it's all we have right now.
