A judge has referred Lindsay Lohan's mother to a community service program, saying volunteering could help her alleged drunken-driving case.
Newsday reports the judge on Thursday also ordered Dina Lohan, 51, to get an independent treatment evaluation. He set her next court appearance for Jan. 7.
Lohan was arrested on Sept. 12 following a traffic stop on Long Island. Police say she was driving 77 mph in a 55 mph zone while intoxicated.

Anthony Mackie has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, PEOPLE confirms.
The Hurt Locker actor, 35, was booked Saturday morning in New York City after he refused to take a Breathalyzer test, an NYPD spokeswoman said.
Officers initially pulled over Mackie's red 2010 Dodge Charger at 1:22 a.m. in East Harlem for tinted windows, which is illegal in the state. Police say that they smelled alcohol on Mackie's breath, and that the actor had bloodshot eyes.

Her license suspended, Dina Lohan left a suburban New York courthouse in a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce on Tuesday after entering a not guilty plea on speeding and drunken driving charges.
Lohan, 50, was surrounded by a media throng usually associated with her troubled actress daughter, Lindsay Lohan, as she left a Long Island courthouse following her arraignment. She was released without bail until her next court appearance on Oct. 23.
The only apparent family member accompanying Lohan to court was her mother, Ann Sullivan.
Judge Joy Watson released Lohan without bail but ordered her driver's license suspended, citing the severity of the alleged drunken driving charge.

Things are just getting worse for Lamar Odom.
The troubled basketball player – who is said to be battling drug addiction as his marriage to Khloé Kardashian Odom struggles – was arrested for DUI early Friday.
Odom, 33, was jailed in Van Nuys after his arrest in the San Fernando Valley at 3:54 a.m. by the California Highway Patrol.
He was released at 8:33 a.m. on $15,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which runs the jails.

David Cassidy was charged Wednesday with felony driving while intoxicated.
The former star of TV's The Patridge Family, 63, was arrested just after midnight in Schodack, N.Y., PEOPLE confirms.
He was pulled over in the middle of a stop-DWI enforcement detail, according to a press release from the Schodack Police Department.

Legal advocate and environmental activist Erin Brockovich-Ellis issued a public apology after her arrest for boating while intoxicated on Friday.
"At no time was the boat away from the dock and there was no public safety risk," she said in a statement released on Sunday. "That being said, I take drunk driving very seriously, this was clearly a big mistake. I know better and I am very sorry."
Brockovich-Ellis, 52, was approached by a game warden on Lake Mead near Las Vegas. He had observed her having trouble trying to dock her motor boat at the Las Vegas Boat Harbor, and he asked her to take a field sobriety test, which she failed. She was later booked into the Clark County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bail.

Reese Witherspoon is getting back to life as usual.
"She is happy to be home with her kids again," a source says of the actress, 37, who returned to L.A. on Monday after her April 19 arrest in Atlanta for disorderly conduct and her husband Jim Toth's DUI arrest the same night.
Her older children, 13-year-old Ava and 9-year-old Deacon, had been staying with their father, actor Ryan Phillippe, while Witherspoon was on location in Atlanta shooting the drama The Good Lie.

Comedian Kevin Hart went online Sunday to offer a mea culpa after he was arrested and jailed on suspicion of drunk driving charges in Los Angeles.
"Drinking & driving is not a game or a laughing matter," Hart Tweeted. "People have lost lives because of stupid s–––. This is a wake-up call for me, I have to be smarter & last night I wasn't. Everything happens for a reason."
Police said Hart, 32, was pulled over on California's Highway 101 freeway around 4:30 a.m. Sunday after his black Mercedes, going about 90 mph, was seen driving erratically and nearly hit a tanker truck, the Associated Press reported.
