Daisy the Cancer Detection Dog Awarded for Sniffing Out 550 Cases, Saving Owner's Life

Daisy's nose knows how to save lives.

Since the Labrador was a puppy, she has been trained at the England-based charity Medical Detection Dogs to sniff out cancer and other fatal diseases in samples of breath, skin and urine, reports Advertiser and Review.

Now 10 years old, Daisy has successfully detected over 550 cases of cancer and is being awarded for her priceless contributions to the lives of others. The keen-nosed pup was recently given the Blue Cross Medal for her work in the field of cancer prevention and detection.

In honor of Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month, we bring you a distinguished senior pet looking for a loving place to spend forever. Meet Elliot, a 7-year-old border collie mix recently surrendered to the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter in Billings, Montana.

Oct. 12 was a sad day for Elliot. She was given up to the shelter by her owners because she kept escaping the yard and they worried she would get hurt. True to her breed, Elliot clearly has a lot of energy and she's also very smart, so the shelter is looking for an active family with a secure yard to adopt her.

WHTM-TV reports York County, Pennsylvania, residents Brandon and Aimie Terry's Great Dane recently gave birth to 19 puppies.

Great Danes normally have seven to 10 puppies in a litter, but Brandon Terry says an X-ray of Snowy found at least 15 "little spines" during a visit to the veterinarian's office before she gave birth.

A dog named Buddy didn't wait for an invitation when his 85-year-old owner had to go to the hospital.

Four-year-old Buddy hitched a ride on the outside of the ambulance carrying Texas rancher J.R. Nicholson to Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Sebastian the Newfoundland is a go-getter. Once he knows what he wants he will stop at nothing to get it. In this case, Sebastian's goal is to get a copious amounts of tummy tickles from his owner.

In the video, the dog's mom dishes out a few belly pats, but then goes back to staring off into the distance. This simply won't do for Sebastian.

D.C. Woman Spends $35K on Search for Lost Dog

A District of Columbia woman has spent more than $35,000 in a year-long search for her beloved missing dog.

Janet Mihalyfi, 39, of Georgetown has hired psychics and private investigators, posted thousands of fliers, installed cameras in the woods and put out dog food at spots where the Rottweiler mix has reportedly been spotted.

Mihalyfi lost 5-year-old Havoc on Nov. 9, 2013, after she took him and her other dog off their leashes during a run in a wooded area. Just then, a deer bolted by and both dogs gave chase.

She hasn't seen Havoc since.

This bonded pair were found wandering the streets together in very poor condition. Not only were they unkempt from life on the streets, but they came to the shelter painfully shy and fearful of the world around them.
