Couple Injured in Boston Marathon Bombing Weds

Originally posted 04/04/2014 12:00PM

It may have been pouring rain in Asheville, N.C., on Friday, but underneath a tent filled with flowers it felt like the sun was shining.

That's because Rebekah Gregory and Pete DiMartino, who were gravely injured in last April's Boston Marathon bombing, were standing together, exchanging vows in front of family and friends who at one time had worried this day might never come.

Please welcome back Rebekah Gregory! Rebekah and her fiancé, Pete DiMartino, will wed in Asheville, N.C., on April 4 in TheKnot.com's Dream Wedding. The two had been dating just over a year when they were both injured in the April 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing. In the midst of their recovery, Pete, 29, proposed, and the rest is becoming history. In the weeks leading up to her wedding, Rebekah, 26, is blogging for PEOPLE.com about her recovery, her relationship and the wedding planning process. My wedding week is officially here and it feels like we have been going nonstop. So it's no surprise that it did not hit me until the other night that I am actually getting married. In just three days from now, I will vow to love one man for the rest of my life – whoa, that's a pretty big deal, right?!

I guess it's typical for all brides to reflect back on their lives a little bit during this time. And man, if you told me a year ago that I would be on my way to Asheville, N.C., to get hitched right now I would've sent you to a loony bin. But that's the funny thing about life: You never can tell what it's going to throw at you. And I have to say, it's been a wild ride – but I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Someone asked me the other day if April was going to be a hard month for Pete and me. With the anniversary of the bombing quickly approaching on the 15th, it's hard not to reflect back to the events that changed our lives just shy of one year ago.

Reporters are trying to get their stories. Bostonians are lining up tribute ceremonies for the survivors (I still refuse to call anyone a victim). And everyone is preparing to go back to the spot where our world literally blew up in front of our eyes.
