Indian police have filed a case against the current Miss Universe, American Olivia Culpo, for an unauthorized fashion shoot at the Taj Mahal, India's white-marble monument to love, a police officer said Thursday.
Police Inspector Sushant Gaur said Culpo and others in her group are accused of violating India's Heritage Act. Culpo, from Cranston, R.I., was on a 10-day visit to India.
He said they shot a commercial for footwear at the Taj Mahal on Sunday without the permission of the state-run Archaeological Survey of India. Police acted on a complaint received from the A.S.I. on Thursday, Gaur said.

If anyone feels sympathy for Sunday's mocked Miss USA contestant, it's judge and The Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes, who asked the competitor the now-infamous question that sent cyberspace into a frenzy.
Marissa Powell, 20 – the Miss Utah finalist who didn't win the competition but could easily be the most searched name online from the pageant – was asked by Leakes, 45, what it says about society that women continue to earn less than men even though they are the primary earners in 40 percent of American families with children.

A scoring error dashed the dreams of Denise Garrido, who was crowned the new Miss Universe Canada 2013 on Saturday, only to be told on Sunday that her selection as pageant winner was in error.
Garrido, 26, of Bradford, Ontario, is a pageant veteran, having won the titles of 2008 Miss Earth Canada and 2010 Miss World Canada. But the latest competition was her ultimate goal, offering her a chance to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.
But less than 24 hours after she'd claimed her crown and sash, Garrido was pulled aside by the Miss Universe Canada pageant director, who explained that because scores were wrongly transferred from the judges' paper forms to electronic tabulation, a typo glitch had occurred, according to the Toronto Star.

Olivia Culpo went from being Miss USA to Miss Universe on Wednesday night – and it didn't take her long for her to begin thinking internationally ... at least when it comes to eating.
"I can't wait to go to Asia," the 20-year-old Rhode Island beauty told PEOPLE on Thursday morning. "I've never been anywhere in Asia. I like Asian food. I love soup. I really want to go to Vietnam and try some soup. There's nothing like it being authentic."
A few hours after being crowned Miss Universe – the first time a contestant from the United States has won the title in 15 years – Culpo sat down with PEOPLE over coffee in her suite in Las Vegas's Planet Hollywood Hotel to discuss her journey, her new focus and her newest celebrity crush, among other things.

Olivia Culpo, the 20-year-old Miss USA and former Miss Rhode Island, won the Miss Universe pageant on Wednesday night in Las Vegas, becoming the first American to do so since 1997.
The Boston University sophomore outlasted 88 other competitors. Miss Philippines, Janine Tugonon, came in second, and Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero, finished third.
"What an honor! This night was a dream come true. Thank you everyone for your support tonight!! USA finally did it!" Culpo wrote on Twitter after the competition ended.

The biggest star of the 61st annual Miss USA Pageant hails from the smallest state in the nation.
Olivia Culpo, a bubbly brunette beauty from Rhode Island, bested 50 other women to win Sunday night's 2012 Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas.
Culpo, 20, of Cranston, dazzled judges with her poise and looks and didn't miss a beat (after a deep breath) when thrown a tough question via Twitter about whether someone who is transgender should be allowed to participate in pageants.
"I do think it would be fair, but I understand if people could be apprehensive," she said. "I do accept that because I believe it's a free country."

Close, but no crown.
Jenna Talackova, the first-ever transgender contestant to compete in the Miss Universe Canada pageant, was among the final 12 hopefuls before failing to make the cut for the top five in Saturday night's competition.
But she didn't go home empty-handed. The leggy 23-year-old Vancouver resident, who had earlier strutted her stuff in the bikini portion of the competition, was one of four contestants named Miss Congeniality.
