Newlyweds Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds settled down long before they exchanged vows in a surprise ceremony in Charleston, S.C., on Sunday.
"They knew they were headed for marriage when they bought the house together," a source tells PEOPLE.
"They've been nesting for quite a while now. They moved to the suburbs which has a pretty conservative lifestyle."
It's true: After just six months of dating, the couple purchased a home valued at more than $2 million in Bedford, N.Y., in April.

After getting a taste of the Kennedy lifestyle this summer, Taylor Swift apparently feels she could get used to it.
The Nashville-based singer, 22, who is dating Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s son Conor, 18, has bought a house in Hyannis Port, Mass., across the street from Conor's grandmother Ethel, according to several reports.
A realtor in Hyannis, Mass., confirmed the purchase to PEOPLE, saying Swift bought the property last week.

Mel Gibson's former Connecticut home – which the actor sold in 2010 for $24 million – is back on the market again.
The grand and historic estate, which Gibson bought in 1994 while married to now ex-wife Robyn, has gone on sale for $33 million, reports Realtor.com.

When Reese Witherspoon married Jim Toth last year, the actress chose her Ojai estate for the big day – and now she's giving fans a glimpse of the country chic spread.
"[Libbey Ranch] reminds me of growing up in Tennessee, where we spent all day outside," she tells Elle Décor in its new issue, on stands Aug. 7. "I wanted my children to have that experience, to get muddy and hang out with the animals."

"NOOOOO. I love this house!" the The X Factor judge Tweeted of the $2.5 million Long Island vacation home her fiancé Jason Trawick's parents, William and Susan, just put on the market.
"She really did love staying there and it was a great getaway for peace and privacy," says a source. "Her boys loved fishing off the dock with Jason in their backyard."

Perhaps Giuliana and Bill Rancic need more room for their baby boy on the way.
The E! News host mommy-to-be, 37, and her hubby, 41, have put the residence featured on their reality show Giuliana & Bill on the market, according to real estate website Zillow.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home, located in L.A.'s posh Brentwood area, is complete with a beautiful front garden, a spacious yard, a pool and hillside views.
Listed at almost $2.4 million, the estate was built in 1941.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who began settling into a $2 million, five-bedroom, colonial-style home in Bedford, N.Y., in May, were spotted out together earlier this week nearby with bags of groceries.
The couple, who've been linked since last fall after costarring in Green Lantern, are also decorating their comfortable new abode.
Lively, 24, recently purchased $1,000 worth of knobs at Anthropologie, PEOPLE reports in its newest issue (out now). She's also been eyeing chandeliers a Westport, Conn., antique shop Parc Monceau.
