He recently faced an uphill battle in his personal life. And now, Zac Efron is ready to take on a mountain. Literally.
The actor, 25, is speaking out for the first time since news broke that he had completed a stint in rehab five months ago in an attempt to end his partying lifestyle.
On Friday, Efron posted a photo on his Instagram page showing him high atop the Peruvian mountains, flanked by the famous ruins of Machu Picchu.

He was an A student in his Arroyo Grande, Calif., high school – a theater kid who hit the big time as the fresh-faced teenaged star of Disney Channel's High School Musical phenomenon. There were no public displays of bad behavior, no drunken arrests or barroom brawls.
But with fame came a partying lifestyle that continued to escalate until Zac Efron quietly sought help in rehab.
"He was partying a lot," says a friend. "It went from bad to worse."

Zac Efron seemed to have it all.
After he shot to fame at age 17 after starring as squeaky-clean basketball star Troy Bolton on Disney Channel's High School Musical franchise, it appeared the heartthrob had avoided the pitfalls of youthful stardom.
But after it was revealed Monday that Efron, now 25, had checked into rehab earlier this year, sources tell PEOPLE the seemingly straight-arrow actor – who has never run into trouble with the law and has a sterling reputation as a professional on set – partied much harder than his public image let on.
"He surrounds himself with a group that enjoys partying," an Efron insider tells PEOPLE. "He got caught up in the partying lifestyle the past few years."

Lindsay Lohan has an explanation for why she was a no-show at the Venice Film Festival on Friday – she never said she was going to be there in the first place.
There was speculation that the rehabbed star had flaked out on walking the red carpet in Italy to promote her latest film, The Canyons, after her director, Paul Schrader, told reporters that he'd been "held hostage" for the past 16 months by his lead actress.
Describing Lohan as "very talented but unpredictable," he added, "She was supposed to be here today. She said she would be, but she is not."

Lindsay Lohan wasn't at the Los Angeles premiere of her racy film The Canyons on Tuesday night, but cast members had plenty to say about the star and her recovery.
"She's decided not to be here because she's worried coming out of rehab [and] hanging out in L.A. for the weekend," the film's director Paul Schrader told the audience in a speech before the movie was shown.
Explaining Lohan's history with alcohol, Schrader told reporters, "She has been on this Adderall for about five years. It makes her speedy so she has to cut that with vodka. Now you're dealing with a speedball."
