Originally posted 01/11/2012 01:00PM
Four-time Winter X Games winner Sarah Burke is in a coma after an accident during a training run on the superpipe in Park City, Utah.
The ski pro, 29, was taken by members of the resort's mountain patrol and airlifted to a Salt Lake City hospital, according to Peter Judge, the CEO of the Canadian freestyle team.
"She landed a trick down in the bottom end of the pipe and kind of bounced from her feet to her head," Judge tells Toronto's Globe and Mail newspaper. "It wasn't anything that looked like a catastrophic fall, so I'm a bit mystified."

Originally posted 07/29/2011 01:15PM
The "toilet paper roll" was ultimately too tricky for Travis Pastrana Thursday.
The motocross star, 27, broke bones in his right foot and ankle after crashing during the Moto X Best Trick event at the X Games in Los Angeles. Pastrana was attempting a corked 720 he's dubbed "the toilet paper roll" when he fell.
"Travis can be in a lot of pain and shake it off, like, 'Let's do it again,' " an X Games producer who witnessed the crash tells PEOPLE.
"But when the crew came over he was limping and on one foot. You knew it was bad, but you didn't know what exactly – just, 'Oh no, that's not good.' "
