Abducted Hannah Anderson made her first public appearance Thursday, attending a fundraiser for her and her family near San Diego, Calif., only days after her her dramatic rescue last weekend.

While Hannah, wearing yellow sunglasses, did not stop and speak to the press, her father, Brett Anderson, told reporters outside the fundraiser gathering place, the Boll Weevil restaurant in Lakeside, Calif. did.

"This is a small community that we are a part of, and the community came together putting on this great fundraiser for Hannah and hopefully for her future and healing," he said, reports CNN.

Brett Anderson also thanked local residents, family and friends, the media and law authorities, as well as the horseback riders whose sighting and phone tip to authorities led to DiMaggio and Hannah's being found.

Horseback Riders Recall Encounter That Led Cops to James DiMaggio

It was his tip that ultimately led the FBI to the campsite where James DiMaggio was killed and Hannah Anderson rescued on Saturday.

Recalling how he first alerted state police after his group, on horseback, encountered DiMaggio and Anderson in rugged backcountry on Wednesday, Mark John, a retired Gem County, Idaho, sheriff, conceded it was his wife who intuited that the girl might be in trouble.

"You know, when we were on the lake, my wife wanted to talk to the girl … she felt something might be wrong, and I said, 'No, it might be a lovers' quarrel,' " John told reporters on Sunday.

He and his wife noted that, as they rode away from seeing the couple, Hannah said aloud to herself, "Looks like we're in real trouble now."

San Diego County Sheriff's officials say James Lee DiMaggio, suspected of abducting 16-year-old Hannah Anderson, has been killed in Idaho and the teen has been found safe.

San Diego Sheriff William D. Gore said Hannah's father was "elated" his daughter was found alive. FBI agents shot and killed DiMaggio, reports CNN.

"It was the worst-case scenario, but at the same time, we're very grateful Hannah is alive," Cathy Griffin, a DiMaggio family spokeswoman, told PEOPLE on Saturday night.
