The Hangover, Avatar Lift Golden Globes
Originally posted 01/17/2010 08:20PM
Rain from the skies over Southern California and tears from an emotional Meryl Streep could not dampen spirits at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's 67th annual Golden Globes Awards from Los Angeles on Sunday.
Streep won her leading actress award for Julie & Julia and compared the indomitable spirit of her mother to that of master chef Julia Child, whom the acclaimed actress plays in writer-director Nora Ephron's movie.
The Blind Side star Sandra Bullock won the dramatic leading actress Globe for her portrayal of the real-life Leigh Anne Touhy, who brought a homeless high-school student into her family. Bullock said that the Touhys taught her that a family is made up of those who have your back, and she thanked husband Jesse James for having hers.
She also told her American family to put down the Maker's Mark, and her German family – in perfect German – to brush their teeth and go to bed.

Wyclef Jean asked for help, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is extending its collective hand.
The group, which is behind this Sunday's Golden Globe Awards, announced Thursday that it is assisting in the rescue and relief effort now taking place in Haiti, which was devastated Tuesday by a 7.0 earthquake.
In its statement, the organization said, "The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is announcing at the Golden Globes that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Foundation is donating $100,000 to Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti relief fund for the victims of the Haiti earthquake."
Also supporting the nation hit by disaster are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, whose foundation on Wednesday committed $1 million in relief.

Will George Clooney Take Elisabetta to the Awards Shows?
Originally posted 12/28/2009 11:30AM
Things certainly look like they're going well for George Clooney and Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis – after all, the famously marriage-averse actor hasn't been shy about squiring the TV presenter around at public events.
But is he ready to take the big plunge in Hollywood? You know, asking her to be his official date for the awards shows? The hunky leading man – nominated for the best actor at both the Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe awards – previously took girlfriend Sarah Larson to the Oscars, but then the couple split a couple months later. Is an awards invite a golden opportunity or too much pressure for a Hollywood romance?
