The My Week with Marilyn star earned best female lead for her on-screen transformation into dazzling blond icon Marilyn Monroe Saturday at the 27th annual Independent Spirit Awards. Accepting the award, she joked about how she wore "her own clothes" and cut "her own hair" when she came to the ceremony for the first time 10 years ago.
Williams, 31, already took home a major win for the role at the Golden Globe Awards and, come Sunday, she might have another prize for her shelf after the Academy Awards.
But the Indie Awards's biggest winner was The Artist, which took home the afternoon's top honor, best feature.

James Franco can breathe a tiny sigh of relief.
The Oscar host, who is also nominated for Best Actor at Sunday's show, already won a best actor award this weekend – at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday.
"I just went through film school at NYU and finished my thesis film, so independent film means a lot to me," said the actor, who was nominated for his role in 127 Hours as real life adventurer Aron Ralston, who had to sever his own arm when he got trapped under a boulder in 2003.
Natalie Portman, the heavily favored frontrunner for Oscar's Best Actress award, took home the Spirit award for female acting for Black Swan, which also won for best picture and best director for Darren Aronosky on Saturday.

Gabourey Sidibe: From $2 a Day to Independent Spirit Awards Win
Originally posted 03/06/2010 01:30AM
Who knew how far $2 could go? Gabourey Sidibe's mom, who used to pay her daughter that amount each day to attend school, does now.
"I saved up my money for a week so I could see Welcome to the Dollhouse," Sidibe, the Independent Spirit Awards' best female lead winner, said in her beaming acceptance speech Friday night. She excitedly explained that it was the first film that made her think: "I could do that." A notion that gave birth to her own independent spirit and an Oscar-nominated performance in her first film, Precious.
Her costar Mo'Nique credited their "low-budget, independent film's" leaders for teaching her how to bring her A-game and score yet another trophy this awards season for best supporting female.
But it wasn't all about the best feature film of the year, Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire. Crazy Heart star Jeff Bridges continued his winning streak for best male lead, exclaiming to his wife that his Spirit award trophy would "really tie the room together!" He explained to PEOPLE after that it was his "little
nod to The Dude."

Here are five things you might not know about the funnyman as he gets ready to host an awards show for the "first and only [time]."

Originally posted 12/02/2008 02:50PM
Having earned critical raves for her raw portrayal of recovering drug addict Kym in Rachel Getting Married, Anne Hathaway has now picked up another plaudit: a Spirit Award nomination.
Hathaway, 26, is in the running for best female lead and will face off against Michelle Williams (Wendy and Lucy) when Film International's Spirit Awards are handed out Feb. 21.
In all, Rachel Getting Married, directed by Jonathan Demme, is up for six awards, as is Ballast, a drama about survival in the Mississippi Delta. Leading the field, both films were recognized in the best feature category and for their actors and directors.
Other high-profile nominees include: Penélope Cruz, for best supporting female in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona; Javier Bardem, for best male lead in that same film; and Sean Penn, as '70s gay activist Harvey Milk, in director Gus Van Sant's Milk. Rainn Wilson to Host Independent Spirit Awards
Originally posted 12/21/2007 12:55PM
Another awards show will go on, despite the writers' strike. The Office star Rainn Wilson will host Film Independent's annual Independent Spirit Awards honoring indie films.
The writers' union granted a waiver to the show, which will air live on the Independent Film Channel Feb. 23. Wilson, a Writers Guild of America member, will contribute to the writing on the program.
"The Spirit Awards and Film Independent have a long-standing, positive relationship with the Writers Guild," Film Independent executive director Dawn Hudson said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "We've worked over many, many years to have parity for writers as they're represented on our show."
The WGA rejected requests for similar waivers from organizers of the Golden Globes and Academy Awards, both of which may be impacted if the strike is not resolved. The Jan. 8 People's Choice Awards was forced to change formats due to the strike.
