Originally posted 01/27/2013 09:20PM

Today, she's one of the world's sexiest stars. But Sofia Vergara wasn't quite as celebrated for her curves early in her career.

The Modern Family actress was among a handful of actors who kicked off Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards with personal stories about how they got started in the business. Vergara, 40, joked about her famous figure.

"I grew up in Barranquilla, Colombia, in a very traditional Catholic home," she said. "My father told me that if I ever did anything artistic, I was going to look like a hooker. I told him, 'With these huge boobs that I inherited from your mother, I already look like a hooker!' "

Actresses don't usually like to talk about weight gain, but Claire Danes was more than happy to Sunday evening. Of course, the topic of discussion was her 6-week-old son Cyrus Michael Christopher.

"He's six weeks and getting fat. It's very exciting. All that time on the boob is starting to result in growth," the Homeland star, 33, told Giuliana Rancic on E!'s Live from the Red Carpet at the SAG Awards.

"He's getting rolls ... thank goodness they've arrived. He's starting to smile a little bit and he kind of knows I exist," she added. "That's reassuring – that feedback is amazing."

For much of his career, Dick Van Dyke was known for his youthful energy. So it's little wonder that when the Mary Poppins actor turned 87 last December, he and wife Arlene celebrated with a trip to Disneyland.

"What a kick!" says Van Dyke, recounting palling around with Mickey Mouse and receiving a serenade from the L.A. Philharmonic. "We were treated like royalty."

There's more adulation in store for him Jan. 27, when the Dick Van Dyke Show and Diagnosis Murder star will receive the Life Achievement Award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (airing on TNT and TBS). "This was a surprise," he confesses. "People think of me as a song and dance entertainer. To be accepted by my peers as an actor is really a thrill."

Naomi Watts doesn't need to be the only one celebrating her SAG Award nomination on Sunday.

Even if you're only catching the big night from the small screen, honor the actress and her film The Impossible with a specialty cocktail created by mixologists at Jacob's Creek, the Australian wine line for which Watts serves as an ambassador – and is "not a bad looking face for the brand," chief winemaker Bernard Hickin adds.

"This delicately bubbly and bittersweet cocktail is based on the inspiring true story of one family's struggle to survive and locate each other after the catastrophic Tsunami in Southeast Asia," Andrew White, mixologist at the Brooklyneer in N.Y.C., tells PEOPLE.

How do you satisfy Hollywood's biggest stars – people with discerning palates, often strict diets and tight dresses?

That is the task before Los Angeles-based celebrity chef Suzanne Goin, who will cook up a seasonal, tasty meal for the A-listers attending Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.

"The challenge in this case is having that one plate that has three different dishes on it that need to all really work together," says Goin, who previewed the SAG Awards menu last week at her West Hollywood restaurant Lucques. "How do I do that? I use the produce and vegetables that are the most beautiful."
