As the one-month anniversary of Cory Monteith's death quickly approaches, Lea Michele continues to reel from the devastating loss.

"Every day is so hard. Just getting up in the morning means remembering that Cory is gone," a source close to Monteith's girlfriend and Glee costar tells PEOPLE. "It's incredibly painful."

Michele, 26, returned to the set of the FOX hit earlier this week, but life without Monteith – who ingested a fatal mixture of alcohol and heroin on July 13 – continues to prove difficult.

Don't look now Selena Gomez, but Justin Bieber is getting kissy with a new girl.

While backstage at the Teen Choice Awards, the "Boyfriend" singer bumped into Crystal the capuchin monkey and her trainer, Thomas Gunderson, and couldn't help but make eyes at the famous ape, waving and smiling at her before offering up his cheek for a quick peck.

At Gunderson's behest, Crystal eventually went for it – who could blame her? – and lightly licked Bieber's cheek, to his delight.

It was a night all about choice! The 2012 Teen Choice awards saw surfboards given to fan-chosen actors, actresses and singers. And, of course, they had some choice words and moments of their own Sunday night at Los Angeles's Gibson Amphitheatre. In case you missed the tween-tastic action, here are the highlights:

1. Twilight Gives Back
For once, the Twilight smash franchise wasn't just winning awards – the stars were giving them away!

After Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner picked up their surf boards for their on-screen performances, the leading vampire was feeling rather generous.

"I don't know if I'm allowed to – can I give this to the audience?" Pattinson asked, before handing his summery prize to fans in the audience. Stewart then followed his example and also gave away her award.

Sandra Bullock didn't walk the blue carpet at the Teen Choice Awards, but that doesn't mean she wasn't there.

The actress, 46, surprised the crowd at L.A.'s Universal Amphitheater on Sunday, when she accepted the award for choice movie actress in a drama for her Oscar-winning role in The Blind Side.

Bullock – dressed in a gray top, black leather pants and high heels – came on stage and thanked cheering fans. "I don't know if you should bring attention to this. Some things are better left unsaid. It's been awhile since I was a teen," she said. "I'm so blessed and lucky. The Blind Side – I got to meet so many good people, so many good lessons I took away from it."

The vampire drama Twilight drove a stake through the 11th annual Teen Choice 2009 awards on Sunday, winning 11 trophies in a ceremony also notable for its celebration of musical acts new and not-so-new.

Audience members thirsting for a glimpse of the Twilight stars were not disappointed, as the film won best drama as well as acting awards for leads Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and supporting stars Cam Gigandet, Ashley Greene and Taylor Lautner.

Pattinson was also named Choice Male Hottie. "I really appreciate it. I have to say, the hottest teens of the year are Twilight fans!" he told the crowd during the taped event, which airs Monday night on FOX. Choice Female Hottie went to Megan Fox, star of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
