Fifty Shades of Grey Sparks Musical Theater Spoof

Originally posted 01/08/2013 07:45AM

Even with last year's runaway success, 2013 is already shaping up to be a 50 Shades of Grey kind of year.

A feature film based on the sexually charged book, which has sold 65 million copies around the world, is in the works for this year. And a musical spoof of the book, 50 Shades! The Musical, will open at New York City's Gramercy Theater on Friday, the New York Post reports.

The stage version is heavy with innuendo but scarce on nudity, unlike the book, which has drawn high praise and vicious criticism as "mommy porn" for its frank description of the bondage tinged relationship between Anastasia Steele, a student, and Christian Grey, her billionaire sexual provocateur.

Originally posted 09/19/2012 03:30PM

This winter, Christian Grey will meet his true match – at least in the kitchen.

On Nov. 13, an established food industry professional plans to release anonymously Fifty Shades of Chicken, a cookbook from publisher Clarkson Potter that is inspired by the erotic literary phenomenon Fifty Shades of Grey.

"Like so many others, Fifty Shades of Grey resonated for me," the writer – working under the pen name FL Fowler – tells PEOPLE in an email. "It evoked something I'd never been able to express. Then one day as I was tying up the ankles of a chicken for roasting, I realized why some of the scenes in the book were so strikingly familiar. It turns out I've been practicing BDSM for years – but with poultry."

Robert Pattinson Jokes: I'd 'Lick the Pages' of 50 Shades of Grey

Originally posted 07/12/2012 07:00PM

Could there be too much to know about Robert Pattinson?

Consider what he said Thursday at Comic-Con while promoting Breaking Dawn: Part 2.

When questioned, he and Kristen Stewart were mum on whether or not they've been reading E.L. James's sex-filled bestseller, 50 Shades of Grey – but the Twilight actor knows what he would do if the risqué read was right in front of him.

"I would just sit there and lick the pages," Pattinson, 26, told MTV's Josh Horowitz with a laugh on Thursday during an interview at the fest in San Diego, adding, "What are we live on?" – as he realized his silly response would gain attention.

Stewart, 22, on the other hand, was less upbeat about the topic.

When asked if she reads the novel in a book club with Pattinson and fellow Twilight star Taylor Lautner, she said simply, "That would be disgusting."

EL James teared up as she took in the screams of more than 1,000 women from across Connecticut – and beyond – who paid $25 each to see her at a New Haven hotel Wednesday night.

"I'm pretty impressed by this turnout," the emotional Fifty Shades of Grey author told the event host, R.J. Julia Booksellers owner Roxanne Coady. "This is really f–––ing phenomenal. I didn't foresee this at all."

The audience on this latest stop of James's book tour included women of all ages, shapes, sizes and relationship status. And they didn't hold back with their personal questions for the author, whose books are holding firm at number one, two and three on the bestseller list.

One of the more bold questions: How did James's husband react to seeing her sexual fantasies on paper?
