Earlier in the day, Philip's youngest son, Prince Edward, 49, had been to see him. Asked how his father was, Edward told reporters, "[He's] well, thank you."
Philip, who is said to be "comfortable and in good spirits," underwent an exploratory operation on Friday and spent the weekend being cared for at the London Clinic.

Prince Charles's royal title can't compare to one he will earn next year – grandfather – now that Kate and his son Prince William are expecting their first child.
"I'm thrilled," he told reporters Thursday as he was boarding the HMS Belfast in London. "It's a very nice thought to become a grandfather in my old age, if I can say so."
Meanwhile, Charles says he is happy to see that Kate is recovering and out of the hospital.
"I'm very glad my daughter-in-law is getting better, thank goodness," he told reporters.

With a smile and the briefest of comments that she is feeling "much better," a fragile-looking Duchess of Cambridge left the hospital Thursday morning.
An expectant Kate walked out of King Edward VII hospital with husband William at around 10:45 a.m.
Just before she stepped into her waiting car, Kate – in a navy checked overcoat and light blue scarf and clutching a bouquet of yellow roses – softly answered questions from the ranks of media crews about how she was doing.

It was something of a sister act for the Duchess of Cambridge on Sunday at Wimbledon: She had Pippa by her side when she cheered on Brit Andy Murray at the men's final.
Big tennis fans (and players), Kate, 30, and Pippa, 28, clapped enthusiastically as Murray took the early lead against Roger Federer, and they were seen sharing a giggle in the royal box above Centre Court.
In the end, though, Federer bested Murray and took home his seventh Wimbledon title, and the sisters stood as Murray gave an emotional speech after his defeat.
