The hit series dropped a brand-new season 3 trailer on Friday, offering viewers their first official glimpse at Mariah Carey's upcoming role.
First released by Entertainment Weekly, the promo shows the pop diva, who plays a singer named Kitty, joining Jamal (Jussie Smollett) in the recording studio.

Empire is stirring up drama before its latest season even hits airwaves.
Fox has been hit with a class action lawsuit stemming from the filming of the popular series at a Chicago juvenile detention center – the setting for the first two episodes of season 2 – according to court documents obtained by Deadline.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in the U.S. Northern District Court of Illinois, alleges that while filming at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center in June, July and August 2015, Empire caused three separate lockdowns.

As Michael, the boyfriend of middle son Jamal (Jussie Smollett), de la Fuente is playing one of the few gay minority characters currently on television.
"I'm very proud of that," the actor, 29, says in a video exclusive to PEOPLE from the third annual Platino Awards, which were held in Uruguay in July and celebrates the Ibero-American film industry. "It's been amazing because we've gotten so many tweets and messages on Instagram and emails from fans that are so grateful that we are giving face to these characters and just putting it out there. It's necessary and important."

After months of speculation, FOX announced on Monday that the musical icon is set to appear on the hit show's October 5 episode.
Carey, 46, is set to play Kitty, "a mega-superstar who comes to Empire to collaborate with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on an explosive new song. When the duet encounters obstacles, Kitty help Jamal dig deep to overcome personal difficulties and reach a musical breakthrough," according to the press release.
