Across the Twitterverse, celebrities expressed their sorrow at the passing of Dick Clark, the television icon who was dubbed "America's Oldest Teenager" and welcomed generations to a new beginning every New Year's Eve.
Responses ranged from the mournful to those that joyfully praised Clark's legacy. But many simply recalled him as a legend.
"Just heard the news [about] Dick Clark," Tweeted Mario Lopez. "It was truly an honor to have worked with him, learn from him and to be able to call him a friend. He was a great man and an even better friend."

Like just about everyone one else on the planet, Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis got up very early on the morning of April 29 to watch the royal wedding.
"My daughter [Jade, 3] and I watched it in bed," she tells PEOPLE. "It was one of the most precious moments because she's very into princes and princesses. She said, 'Mommy, they're real!'"
Just wait until Jade realizes that Mommy is about to meet – and cook for – that very real royal couple.

No In-N-Out Burger for Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
Due to start the California leg of their North American tour on July 8, the Royal Newlyweds will head to the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club the next day for a charity match in which William will participate, Kate and 2,500 other people will watch, and the photogenic culinary artist Giada De Laurentiis will cook, the chef revealed on Friday's Today show.
"I had no idea the Royal Couple would be attending," De Laurentiis, 40, told Today.com. Meanwhile, in its promos, the show had teased that a member of its staff would be cooking for the Royals – prompting new co-host Ann Curry to announce twice she wouldn't be the one standing over the stove.

Is a woman's place really in the kitchen?
Yes – in a manner of speaking, anyway, says feisty TV chef Giada De Laurentiis.
"I think it can be hard for any man to sometimes be upstaged by his wife," she explains in the February issue of Redbook. "So when I'm home, I work very hard to be Todd's wife and Jade's mother. I have no problem going back to those traditional roles."
The star of Giada at Home, 40, is married to Todd Thompson and mom to Jade, who turns 3 in March. She adds that it helps in the romance department to put the focus on her husband.

Dino De Laurentiis, one of the last of the cigar-chomping movie moguls, died Thursday in Los Angeles, his daughter Raffaella De Laurentiis has confirmed. He was 91.
Colorful, bold and tough, De Laurentiis produced some 500 movies that spanned the works of Italian masters Federico Fellini and Roberto Rossellini to, starting in the 1960s, Hollywood's Serpico, Three Days of the Condor, Death Wish, Blue Velvet and the much-maligned, but still entertaining, 1976 remake of King Kong.
"My grandfather was a true inspiration. He was my biggest champion in life and a constant source for wisdom and advice. I will miss him dearly," Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis, 40, told the Hollywood Reporter in a statement.
