When it comes to romance, Michael Fassbender doesn't necessarily mix work and play – even if his current girlfriend is his former costar.

"Nothing happened while we were filming," he tells GQ magazine in its June issue, confirming his relationship with Shame actress Nicole Beharie, 27. "We started talking more on the promotion thing. So, yeah, it just sort of unfolded like that."

The two first garnered buzz after they were photographed in New York City.

He may play a sex addict in the NC-17 drama Shame, but it appears Michael Fassbender is really a mama's boy at heart.

The Irish actor is racking up the award nominations for his bare-all role, but though he says he's not hedging his bets on an Oscar nod, there's no contest on who would accompany him to the ceremony if he's recognized by the Academy.

"It would just be a bonus," Fassbender, 34, tells The Hollywood Reporter of a potential nomination, "but of course I would take my mom down the red carpet."
