Total Recall's Cardinal Sin? It's Not Much Fun: Review

There are reboots and there are remakes. The difference is subtle – and probably entirely semantic – but key. Reboots give beloved franchises new energy. (Think: Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.) Remakes are ill-conceived, often cynical attempts to cash in on a film that worked before.

Total Recall is a remake.

Instead of a fun, wild trip to Mars, like in the 1990 original starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, this Recall – starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel – is set right here on Earth – though a dystopian version that's left much of the planet uninhabitable after world wars. What remains are the upper class United Federation of Britain and the depressing, rainy, blue-collar Colony (a.k.a. Australia).

Jessica Biel Has Done 'Almost Nothing' for Her Wedding to Justin Timberlake

They may have been together since 2007, and the world may have known about their engagement since the first of the year, but Jessica Biel claims she has done "almost nothing" about planning her upcoming wedding to Justin Timberlake.

"I'm just enjoying being engaged," the actress, soon to be seen in Total Recall, tells the Chicago Sun-Times – whose interviewer Cindy Perarlman makes special note of Biel's "megawatt" engagement ring.

(She also notes that no wedding date appears to be set, despite rumors of a ceremony taking place later this summer.)

"I do feel like there is a lot of time and nothing needs to be rushed," says Biel.
