Britney Spears and Family Win Court Battle Against Sam Lutfi

Originally posted 11/01/2012 08:00PM

A three-year legal battle abruptly came to an apparent end for the Spears family.

A Los Angeles judge threw out Sam Lutfi's entire lawsuit on Thursday after attorneys for Britney Spears and her family argued that he hadn't proven his case after six days of testimony.

Lutfi, 38, a onetime confidante of the singer, sued Britney for unpaid fees, her dad Jamie Spears for allegedly punching him, and mom Lynne Spears for purportedly defaming him in her 2008 book.

Britney Spears's Mom Lynne Recounts Painful Times at Trial

Originally posted 10/26/2012 09:15PM

Back in July 2007, Britney Spears drove to the Southern California set of Zoey 101, her sister Jamie Lynn's show, to deliver a note to their mom: Stay away from me and my children.

Lynne Spears briefly relived that painful moment Friday in her first appearance on the witness stand in a libel trial in which Britney's self-described former manager Sam Lutfi is suing Lynne for defaming him in her 2008 book Through the Storm.

Lynne described a complicated relationship with Lutfi spanning less than a year. The pair spoke "hundreds" of times, Lynne said, and it was Lutfi who brought mother and daughter together in a tearful reunion at Britney's Malibu home three months after that note was delivered.

As Lynne calmly testified about the reconciliation, Lutfi, sitting in the courtroom audience, sobbed and wiped tears away.

Britney Spears vs. L.A. Reid: Who's Leading the True Talent on The X Factor?

The X Factor: Will Britney Spears's Teens Win it All?

Originally posted 10/12/2012 09:10AM

Britney Spears was only 16 when she shot to stardom as the bubblegum-pop star in the school-girl uniform.

But any sense of solidarity or sympathy didn't seem to soften her judgment on The X Factor Thursday night, when Spears and fellow judge L.A. Reid were tasked with trimming their six-member teams, teen and older-than-25 years old competitors, respectively, into four.

Joined by rapper Will.i.am at her Malibu house, Spears kept it real. After Justin Bieber lookalike Reed Deming, 13, belted out a stripped-down version of the Plain White T's 2006 single "Hey There Delilah" – a little classic rock, when you factor in his age – the freshly minted judge snipped, "I think he could deliver a little bit better than he did." (Of course, she has already been recognized for her tough-as-nails touch at the judges' table.)

The X Factor Showdown: Would You Rather Take Advice from Simon Cowell or Demi Lovato?

Simon Cowell vs. Demi Lovato: Who's Wiser on The X Factor?

Originally posted 10/11/2012 11:05AM

For the 60 acts who were quickly sifted, sorted and settled until there were but 24 left, Simon Cowell summed up the night within the first five minutes of Wednesday's The X Factor episode: "It's the moment of truth."

And many truths were spoken indeed: After those remaining transitioned from boot camp into the judges' houses, Cowell, 53, and fellow judge Demi Lovato, 20, assigned to the groups and young adults categories, respectively, proved honesty is always the best policy. (Judges L.A. Reid and Britney Spears will mentor the 25-and-older and teen groups, respectively.)

Cowell's lesson of the night? People have to like you. A lot.

On Thursday's episode of The X Factor, one contestant certainly made a big impression.

Freddie Combs, 40, a Greenville, Tenn., minister, told judges Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and L.A. Reid how he almost died when his weight peaked at 920 lbs. in 2009.

"Today through exercise and proper diet, I have lost almost 400 lbs.," Combs, now 540 lbs. and using a oversized wheelchair, said before taking the stage with the help of a handful of stagehands and his wife and caretaker, Kay. "When you almost die, your life changes and you look at living in a whole different manner."

Watch Britney Spears's Wild Reaction to Lightning Strike

Originally posted 09/20/2012 07:00PM

On The X Factor Wednesday, Britney Spears was cool and composed as she sweetly sang "Happy Birthday" to fellow judge L.A. Reid. But on Thursday's show, the pop star loses her cool – when lighting strikes.

In a clip of the episode, Spears reacts by screaming multiple times, making a wacky face – and swearing – when lightning strikes and thunder booms during auditions in Greensboro, N.C.

"Are you okay?" asks a giggling Demi Lovato, who doesn't seem too concerned about the weather.

"Oh my god!" says Spears, "That [expletive] is scary as [expletive]."

"I spit all over you, I'm sorry," she adds to Lovato. "We need to get outta here."

If you don't like Britney Spears's choices on the new season of The X Factor, go ahead and let her know.

Just don't expect her to be fazed by it.

"We got more comfortable in telling our opinions without being afraid of the booing," Demi Lovato told PEOPLE Tuesday of herself and fellow judge Spears. "When Britney and I first started on this show, we were looking at each other like, "What do we do? We're so nervous!' "

A confident Spears added of prepping for the live shows later in the season, "There's no way of prepping, really. You just get ready and you go out there and you do it."

Originally posted 09/05/2012 09:00AM

Britney Spears and her fiancé Jason Trawick have revealed how their relationship went from business to pleasure.

According to Trawick, who previously was one of Spears's agents, the singer made the first move, he tells ELLE magazine in its October cover story, on stands Sept. 18.

"It was kind of one of those things where she moved, like, turned around, so we were face-to-face and then ..., " says Trawick, who became engaged to Spears last December.

But before Trawick, 40, can spill any more juicy details, his fiancée interrupts him, saying, "Okay, that's enough information, sweetie. It was sweet, just say that."

Britney Spears Calls Former Menudo Singer 'Very Sexy' at X Factor Auditions

Originally posted 06/28/2012 05:25PM

Boy band singers know how to charm the ladies – even when they're all grown up.

At Wednesday's X Factor auditions in Providence, R.I., a former singer from the Latin boy band Menudo wooed the audience with his vocal talent and easy charisma, prompting Britney Spears, 30, to say his performance was "very sexy."

Wearing a leather jacket and black T-shirt, 31-year-old Troy Kurtis got the audience waving their arms back and forth as he sang in Spanish. Afterwards, during the judges' critique, L.A. Reid, 56, teased Demi Lovato, 19, about her love of all things Spanish, saying, "[Demi's] sweating. She's giggling."
