Two familiar stars will join the casts of American Horror Story and Boardwalk Empire for the shows' new seasons.
Kathy Bates, who won an Oscar for her frightening role as Annie in the horror film Misery, will join season 3 of FX's American Horror Story alongside fellow Oscar-winner Jessica Lange, EW reports.
Bates, 64, won an Emmy Award in 2012 for her guest turn on Two and a Half Men. She also appeared on Harry's Law and The Office. Bates announced last September that she had undergone a double-mastectomy for breast cancer after surviving ovarian cancer nine years earlier.

Sarah Paulson Is Freaked Out by Her Own Show, American Horror Story
Originally posted 01/24/2013 10:35AM
It's a good thing American Horror Story wrapped up its second season Wednesday night. One of its stars, Sarah Paulson, can sleep a little easier now.
"I can't watch it at night and I'm on it," the Emmy-nominated actress, 38, tells the Associated Press.
"There are some people who like to be scared and I understand that, but I am not one of those individuals. I like to cozy up with a nice book and a bath and a teddy bear. I am not interested in being terrified before I go to sleep."

American Horror Story Creator Ryan Murphy Offers Peek Inside His Beverly Hills Mansion
Originally posted 10/25/2012 03:30PM
It's not every house – or couple – that can welcome Reese Witherspoon, Jane Lynch and Julie Roberts to dinner all on the same night, but Glee, American Horror Story and The New Normal creator Ryan Murphy and his husband, photographer David Miller, did just that, when in June they hosted the $40,000-a-plate dinner for President Obama.
Of course, besides great connections, it also helps to have a $10 million showplace to call home, which the couple – who wed last 4th of July – also have, as seen in The Hollywood Reporter's first-ever Home Issue.
Located near the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Spanish Colonial residence was first built in 1927 and last owned by Diane Keaton. Murphy bought it in 2010 and worked with designer Cliff Fong to add several colorful touches – including quirky antiques and figurines with sombreros circling a courtyard water fountain.

Adam Levine Had 'A Lot of Fun' Filming Racy Scenes on American Horror Story
Originally posted 10/24/2012 06:00PM
As the newlywed Leo on American Horror Story, Adam Levine got pretty frisky with his on-screen wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum. But the Maroon 5 frontman had no qualms about shooting the racy scenes.
"Strangely enough, I'm not uncomfortable doing things like that," Levine told PEOPLE before his band's recent exclusive concert at the Orpheum in Los Angeles for Citi/AAdvantage customers. "Jenna's a professional and she's amazing, and we have a lot of fun. We were laughing and joking the whole time."
While Levine was mum about what's next for his character on American Horror Story, he did share his enthusiasm for the future of his other TV show, The Voice.

American Horror Story is back, and it's bolder and bloodier than ever before.

Drink to American Horror Story with a Creepy Cocktail
Originally posted 10/17/2012 05:55PM
American Horror Story is baaaaack! If you think your nerves might be a little shaky for the frightful premiere Wednesday night, maybe a cocktail will take the edge off.
Here's just the thing to help you keep your cool and have fun too. Los Angeles mixologist Rob Floyd (of Bar Centro, in PEOPLE hot spot the SLS Hotel) has created a drink called the Living Shadow that combines the tartness of red grapes and lemon juice with spicy Basil Hayden's bourbon. To honor the show's disturbing tone, the libation is topped off with an eerie red wine float.
To make your own, check out the recipe below. American Horror Story airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.

Emmy Nominations: PEOPLE TV Critic's Take
Originally posted 09/22/2012 06:40PM
If you ask why I am crying, it's because Madeleine Stowe, star of ABC's Revenge, is not among the Emmy nominees. In fact, I am crying just as she would: My eyes are ringed with big, ready-to-drop tears of wrath and sorrow.
Otherwise, the latest batch of nominees is pretty satisfying.
It's great to see Lena Dunham and her fantastic HBO comedy Girls up for best actress and show. (But nothing for the supporting cast?) Dunham, who plays a smart, funny, self-absorbed young writer, is running against her comic antithesis: Zooey Deschanel of FOX's New Girl, on which she plays (and plays very well) a cupcake.
