[YOUTUBE "g0gbPuuPPyg"] Neil Patrick Harris's character in American Horror Story: Freak Show is really terrible at the saw-a-woman-in-half trick.
In the first sneak peek at NPH's character in Freak Show, Elsa (Jessica Lange) tells her freaks that Chester (Harris) is the new owner of their show as she preps for her big move to Hollywood. (Or so she thinks, anyway.)
Bette and Dot (Sarah Paulson) seem to have moved on from Dandy and Jimmy, respectively, and have taken a shine to Chester. "With every reason to hide themselves away," Dot intones in a voiceover, "the freaks believe in absolute pleasure – the very thing we've been taught to deny ourselves."

Originally touted as a standalone anthology series, all of the gruesome stories in Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story are now connected – and Naomi Grossman's Pepper is the character to tie it all together.
Having first appeared in Asylum, AHS's second season, Grossman was back for its fourth – Freak Show – in an expanded role in the canon. The timeline, set 12 years before the events of Asylum, has Grossman's costar Lily Rabe reprising her role as Sister Mary Eunice in Wednesday night's episode.
PEOPLE chatted with Grossman exclusively to discuss Pepper, her backstory, the American Horror Story universe, a Pepper/Matt Bomer sex scene and how working with the "freaks" has changed her worldview.

Maybe it's just a coincidence that many of the most popular shows on Twitter this year feature the kinds of twists and surprise deaths that have viewers Tweeting in mass outrage.
For 2014, The Walking Dead was the most-Tweeted TV show (#RIPBeth), followed by the reality show hate-watch The Bachelor and the ever-popular Pretty Little Liars, according to the Nielson Twitter TV Ratings.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner has been keeping a secret.
The 44-year-old actor, best known for playing Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, made a surprise appearance Wednesday on American Horror Story.
His scene was brief – he showed up at the beginning of the episode, sporting a smart fedora and a big grin. But by the look and sound of things, he is likely to make a comeback. He's introduced as a possible old lover of Desiree Dupree (Angela Bassett).

And you thought your daily routine was involved.
Jan Bonito, a Denver-based makeup artist, has been steadily transforming himself into American Horror Story characters.
From Jessica Lange's Fiona Goode in Coven to Jyoti Amage's Ma Petite in Freak Show, Bonito's makeup imitations are fairly mind-blowing.

We typically watch American Horror Story under our covers with all the lights in our house flicked on. That's why it was a relief when we talked to Chrissy Metz, who's making her debut on this season's Freak Show Wednesday night.
She's just as scared as we are.
We caught up with Metz on her recurring role as Barbara, aka Ima Wiggles, what it's like being a plus-size actress in Hollywood and her real-life American horror story.

If anyone can take on a powerhouse like Jessica Lange, it would have to be someone with the physical prowess of Michael Chiklis.
As a "strongman," Chiklis made his American Horror Story: Freak Show debut Wednesday night and lived up to his title in more ways than one.
Wendell "Dell" Toledo (Chiklis) arrives at the camp of the titular Freak Show along with his wife, Desiree Dupree (Angela Bassett), a hermaphrodite with three boobs. With credentials like that, Dell thinks they should be shoo-ins as the new headliners, but Elsa Mars (Lange) is strapped for cash and hesitant to hire "The World's Strongest Man." However, she is eventually persuaded by his manly strength and his promise to help lead her band of merry misfits.

It seems pretty safe to say that Kathy Bates probably never expected to play a bearded lady, let alone one with a broad Canadian accent. Or that Sarah Paulson aspired to play a woman with two heads – the one on the right puritanically grim and skeptical, the one on the left a bit dippy and worshipful of movie stars.
