Days of Our Lives' Kassie DePaiva Opens Up About Leukemia Battle: 'I Consider This Just a Bump in the Road'

Kassie DePaiva has gone public about her battle with cancer.
On Thursday, the Days of our Lives star took to her website and shared with fans the reason she's been "quiet" lately. The actress was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in July and sought treatment right away.
"I know that I have been quiet lately and I want to let you know what's been going on in my life," her post began. "I was asked back to play Eve on Days and had begun my exciting return. During the 3-week July hiatus I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and have spent 6 of the last 9 weeks in the hospital. I will continue treatment over the next 3 months."

The 67-year-old, a former beauty pageant contestant, told PEOPLE she was so intimidated by her competition for Marlena that she bowed out.
In an interview for People's Days of Our Lives Collector's Edition, Hall said she auditioned with several "spectacularly famous women," and assuming they'd already turned it down, "I thought something must be wrong with the part."

It wasn't until the show, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, reached out again that her agent persuaded her to say yes.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Days of Our Lives, Kathie Lee Gifford unearthed a piece of her past she'd really rather forget.
As it turns out, the TV personality has a storied history with the soap opera. While trying to break into Hollywood, Gifford, 62, worked as an "atmosphere" extra on the show before being promoted to a "dismembered body voice," actress with under five lines and, eventually, "the most minor character ever," she revealed Tuesday on the Today show.
"Her name is Nurse Callahan," co-host Hoda Kotb said to introduce a vintage clip of KLG in action. "We have not seen this video. This is gonna be fun."
