She's played a ruthless litigator on Damages and an enraged ex-lover on Fatal Attraction, but this week Glenn Close shows a softer side.
The multiple-Oscar nominee appears on Friday night's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which builds a new home for an Iraq war veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Through her charity work, Close met Staff Sgt. Allen Hill, who survived a roadside bomb blast but suffers debilitating flashbacks triggered by loud noises and dimly lit spaces. She referred him to the ABC show because his Ottawa, Kan., home is located near a loud rock quarry.

Like millions of their fellow Americans, the First Family often gathers around the television on Sunday nights to watch ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team create livable homes for families in need. Such a fan of the show, First Lady Michelle Obama couldn't resist jumping in and helping out on the Sept. 25 season premiere.
"This particular show is especially moving because it features Barbara Marshall, a Navy veteran, who despite her own struggles opened her home to serve homeless female veterans in her community," Obama tells PEOPLE. "She's an amazing example of the strength, values and service of America's veterans."
The First Lady traveled on location to Fayetteville, N.C., to help Ty Pennington and his crew with the build. While she admits, "My handy skills are limited," Obama contributed by helping to hang plaques – part of a design project that pays tribute to all of the female veterans who have passed through Marshall's home. She also lent a hand with some gardening in the back yard.

The First Lady will soon be making her network reality TV debut.
Michelle Obama will guest star on ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as part of an outreach program to military veterans.
On Thursday, Obama will travel to Fayetteville, N.C., to help expand a community resource center for homeless female vets located just outside of Ft. Bragg, the White House says.
Obama, who will work on building a new greenhouse and children's play area, is participating as part of the "Joining Forces" initiative she founded with Dr. Jill Biden to assist veterans and their families.
Her appearance on Extreme Makeover will air in October.

It was an unusual sight last August when several of the Dancing with the Stars professional dancers showed up in jeans, T-shirts and hardhats at the Neenah, Wis., home of Rhex Arboleda.
Just weeks before Dancing's season 11 began, the gang decided to pitch in on the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition episode, scheduled to air Oct. 17 (8 p.m. ET), and there was, indeed, a dancing connection.
"Rhex started a program called Move to the Groove that encourages kids to get up and move, dance and be active," DWTS pro Derek Hough tells PEOPLE.
