Listening to Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet talk is a lot like watching an episode of Girls, their HBO comedy about four friends navigating postcollegiate life in New York City: Nothing is off limits, and nothing is dwelled upon for too long before the next topic of discussion arises.

HBO has provided only the first five episodes of season 4 of writer-actress Lena Dunham's Girls,
premiering Sunday at 9 p.m. ET – otherwise known as the time when the Golden Globes are airing on
NBC – but so far the show is biting, funny, touching and surprising.
In short, it's an absolute delight, and possibly even better than the landmark first season. That's the one that ended with Elijah (Andrew Rannells) greeting Marnie (Allison Williams) with this putdown of her dress: "Hello, J-Lo from the Grammys."
Of course, Dunham, who stars as desperately ambitious Brooklyn writer Hannah Horvath, has in the past shown an almost willful tendency to let go of the leash and allow the show to bolt off and run away like an undisciplined Labrador pup.

Cut from the season three premiere, the above scene finds Hannah (a.k.a lead-writer-creator Lena Dunham) and boyfriend Adam (Adam Driver) waiting for ditz-with-a-heart-of-gold Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) to pick up Jessa (Jemima Kirke) from rehab.
As the couple packs up their rental car, Shoshanna pulls up with a hookup from the night before, cattily quipping to Adam and Hannah:
