Well, that looks like it was one hell of a party.

The season 3 poster for HBO's hit Girls shows Hannah (Lena Dunham) and her friends at the end of what looks to have been a big night – with beer bottles and pizza boxes strewn on the floor.

The tagline is "Happily Whatever After," but a look at the new season hints that maybe the girls are finally getting it together – or not.

Girls Season 3 Trailer Released

The Girls are back in town. Well, actually, they seem to be out of town quite a bit.

The season 3 trailer of the HBO hit show is out (watch below) and it opens with Hannah – played by writer, producer and star Lena Dunham – complaining to her on-again boyfriend Adam about a roadside hike through the country.

"It's really liberating," she says as she sits down on the ground, "to say no to s––– you hate."

Set to "Ways to Go" by Grouplove, the preview of the new season, which returns Jan. 12 with back-to-back episodes, shows Hannah, her best friends and the men in their lives doing what they do best: struggling to grow up and live the good life in New York City. But they seem to be having some fun along the way – including a lot of awkward dancing and a trip to the beach in Greenport, N.Y.

If this isn't love, we don't know what is.

On Monday, Girls star and creator Lena Dunham shared an email she wrote to her boyfriend of one year, Jack Antonoff, as part of artist Miranda July's "We Think Alone" project.

The email is addressed to "Dearest Baby" and was written in October 2012, while the writer/director/producer/actress, 27, was on a trip to India.

Unlike her neurotic and insecure character Hannah Horvath on HBO's hit show Girls, Lena Dunham has never struggled with self-esteem or body confidence issues.

"This could very easily be taken out of context, and I think it's funny now, but I remember looking in the mirror as a kid and it would be like for an hour at a time, and I'd be like: I'm just so beautiful. Everybody is so lucky that they get to look at me," the actress, 27, tells Marie Claire UK's October issue.

"And of course that changes as you get older, but I may have held on to that little-kid feeling that was me alone in my bathroom," she says.

PEOPLE TV Critic on Emmy Nominations: Good Job, Kerry Washington!

Originally posted 07/18/2013 12:30PM

The best news out of Thursday's Emmy Awards nominations is that newlywed Kerry Washington is up for best actress for Scandal.

I was worried that the ABC melodrama – about a beautiful political fixer with conflicted romantic feelings for a handsome, emotionally disturbed president – wouldn't be considered serious enough to merit attention.

Actually, now that I've written that out, I can see why the show might not be considered serious. It's ridiculous. And, in fact, it was shut out of the other top categories. (Although Dan Bucatinsky got a guest-actor nod.)
